As I have maintained, at least back in the 60s it was one of if not the finest epidemiology unit in the world..perhaps its location in Atlanta provided protective cover.. Then the yellow beret mob in d.c slithered into its operations and have mission creeped it into senescence. I agree with you. I would often hear people lament that those who were illegally crossing the southern border over the last 4-years, were not vaccinated for covid. I would think to myself: "Who Cares? Covid is a treatable infection with a 99+% recovery rate. What we should be focusing on is the drug-resistant tuberculosis that is becoming more prevalent as a result of this mass migration". Whenever you use public transportation, keep this in mind, as you have no idea who may be infected & sitting in close proximity to you. Some estimates are that between 5-10 million have poured over our borders, or been deliberately flown in.

Exactly correct. After reading what DrRM wrote, assuming it is correct...there is not enough time to try and change the culture of those organizations over time. Need to do the DOGE-MUSK- business model...dismantle most of it and then quickly rebuild. It is possible...the old pareto 80/20. I'm also concerned about funding for legitimate science that has gone to big pharma and other organizations that have massive conflicts of interest. My wife has been forced or be fired to take really 4 covid shots, got out of the last one, thank God, but also forced to take the flu shot every year for almost 40 years. Long before the gain of function work was performed (starting in 2009), the now infamous USAID funded a global hunt for dangerous viral pathogens in wild animals (mostly in tropical regions) under a collaborative research agreement called "PREDICT," led by Jonna Mazet of the University of California, Davis. The ostensible purpose of Mazet's project was to "predict" the outbreak of pandemics by monitoring viruses in wild animals that might cross over and infect humans. A strange thing about PREDICT though was that the researchers didn't really care about how infective the viruses were (something you would need to know to make an actual prediction), only about collecting their genetic sequences if they were potentially dangerous.
Another strange thing about PREDICT was who some of the collaborating organizations were--the lead organization for the virus hunt in China was none other than the EcoHealth Alliance, and their Chinese counterparts were led by none other than the Bat Lady of Wuhan. Ten years before the gain of function work was performed on a bat coronavirus, the same American/Chinese cast of characters collected the bats from a cave where two miners had died from a SARS-like illness and isolated the coronavirus responsible. Mazet, acting in her capacity as the head of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee at UC Davis, even signed off on the safety of the animal-handling practices of the Wuhan lab in later NIAID grant proposals.
An EcoHealth Alliance executive who turned whistle-blower, Andrew Huff, stated in his book _The Truth About Wuhan_ that he was told that the real purpose of PREDICT was to collect genetic sequences of dangerous viruses for subsequent gain-of-function work, and that this was being done at the behest of the research arm of the Director of National Intelligence, the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Agency (IARPA). It is also clear from an EcoHealth gain-of-function grant proposal (called "DEFUSE") that the creation of a potential pandemic-causing pathogen could also be used as a pretext for creating a vaccine against it too.
Thus, the real point wasn't to "predict" a pandemic; it was to gain the capacity to _cause_ a deadly pandemic and to have a "cure" in hand that could be rapidly administered under Emergency Use Authorization rules. Naturally, friends of Fauci, Gates, etc. could profit from selling "cures" whether they worked or not, but it is convenient of course to deploy a biopharmaceutical technology that could make direct use of the genetic sequences collected by PREDICT, namely mRNA and DNA "vaccine" technologies. Ultimately, the mRNA compounds were used for COVID, though the DNA technologies being developed by Inovio Pharmaceuticals were also in the running (Inovio's work having been funded by the Gates Foundation and DARPA among others). The story of how Inovio's CEO got too close to Trump and then was muscled out of the COVID game by the FDA refusing to approve its DNA electroporation transfection device is an informative example of the political economy of how corporatist Deep State "public-private" partnerships actually work.
It is interesting to speculate on the motives of the various players in this story. Having formerly curated the database that tracked research sponsorship for the University of California system, I had a particular what was going on at UC. In the case of UC Davis, Mazet got promoted to a cushy Vice Provost job, likely because her PREDICT agreement brought in $70 million to the UC Davis administration in indirect cost reimbursements from USAID and perhaps because some the PREDICT collaborators were politically very well connected. Not only was EcoHealth covertly managing what amounted to a biological version of the Manhattan Project with the Chinese on behalf of the US intelligence community, another notable collaborator was Metabiota Inc. Some of Metabiota's share of the USAID "PREDICT" grift (and grift from Metabiota refurbishing biowarfare labs in Ukraine) flowed back to a venture capital firm, Rosemont Seneca, which means Hunter Biden got some of the swag. Hunter wrote glowlingly and frequently about USAID in his emails; now that he has been pardoned maybe he can testify about what he knows.
Not to be outdone by UC Davis, UCLA got hundreds of millions of dollars of COVID research money from Fauci's NIAID. Strangely enough, it was UCLA's Deans who lobbied for a tougher mandatory vax policy for all UC employees and students, and it was UCLA that was unusually aggressive in enforcing the policy. All the UC campuses with medical research host clinical trials funded by the usual Big Pharma suspects, some like UCSF also enjoy major funding from the Gates Foundation, etc. Conflicts of interest abound all across the UC system.
We can't just narrowly focus on a particular federal agency or a particular branch of academia; the corruption of the biomedical sector and the Deep State quest for power touches every institution in our society and was orchestrated at deeper levels of the Deep State. It is indeed odd to see 1960's vintage anti-authoritarians have now turned into the "don't trust anyone over 30" power-lusters they once railed against, but this phenomena tends to confirm Acton's remark about how power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

The "progressive" ideal of human reason supposedly enabling experts to centrally redesign society and even redesign man's nature, allegedly to usher in a utopian existence for everyone, confuses rationality with a pretense of omniscience. Each of us needs to exercise their own intellectual autonomy to overcome ignorance precisely because _nobody_ knows everything that is worth knowing. One also needs moral autonomy so that one can profit from whatever one does learn, and so that one can freely share their hard-won knowledge with others. Central planning is in fact the thwarting of rational planning by all the non-central actors, not a means for using reason to improve society.
Progressivism also confuses experimental sciences with a pretense that some anointed scientific expert (like Dr. Fauci) can function as the final authority on what is true and good for everyone else. This is wrong for a couple of reasons. First, experimental sciences must rely upon a decentralized process where one's conclusions always being scrutinized by independent peers, thus requiring transparency of one's data, reasoning, and materials and methods one used for obtaining the data, and requiring open discourse so that anyone can debate one's conclusions. No single individual can ever be "The Science."
Second, experimental scientists can't have the last word on everything simply because _a posteriori_ experimentalism isn't the only method for formulating valid generalizations about reality from our experiences of it. We also derive _a priori_ knowledge from an analysis of conceptual meanings and from introspection of self-evident truths that are inherent in our very ability to engage in meaningful discourse about the world with each other. Moreover, there are many aspects of our understanding of human nature and society where we simply aren't in a position to directly observe the mental states of others, let alone compare them to measurement standards to quantify our observations, nor are we even in a position to run controlled experiments for a proper logical induction of the causal laws involved. Neurobiology doesn't get us very far in understanding humans.
In fields like psychology and most social sciences we are forced to rely on qualitative indirect inferences about the relevant mental states (giving these fields a notorious lack of rigor in their generalizations). In a field like economics, one can achieve theoretical rigor, but only by confining oneself to the self-evident truth of human purposefulness as a starting premise (something which economists frequently fail to do). Fields like mathematics, geometry, and logic are likewise derived from _a priori_ truths, usually with a mix of analytical and self-evident generalizations. It is precisely in the area of understanding human nature (especially as it applies to the formulation of ethics, for example) where an insistence the rigor of laboratory experimentation proves to be an obstacle and not an aid to the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.
Actual intellectual progress, and whatever social benefits flow from it, is an emergent property of spontaneous interactions among many actively-engaged individual minds, not something that is centrally organized and controlled. Exactly correct. After reading what DrRM wrote, assuming it is correct...there is not enough time to try and change the culture of those organizations over time. Need to do the DOGE-MUSK- business model...dismantle most of it and then quickly rebuild. It is possible...the old pareto 80/20. It works, I've done it in business and happens all the time, especially so with corrupt gov operations like this and of course USAID. Of course, if you do not want to change the culture, then you keep the status quo or try to change it slowly...never works as too deeply entrenched...IMO.

I'm also concerned about funding for legitimate science that has gone to big pharma and other organizations that have massive conflicts of interest. How many of the current drugs on the market are "proven" to be beneficial because of rigged clinical trials? This does much more harm to the health of our nation than much of the silly woke stuff. But the silly woke stuff should also be defunded. Or sometimes it's both. The WPATH guidelines that guide so-called "gender-affirming care" are built on junk science and fraudulent clinical trials, and are also silly woke nonsense. The result is thousands of children being horribly harmed and maimed by this. Even though CDC "experts" should be able to notice the harm that is being caused by this crap, they are all in on it. I don't know how many conference calls I have been on with CDC officials, in which I have heard things like "pregnant people" or "human milk" or "chest milk" being uttered in deference to the transgender ideology. Intelligent people don't buy in to stupid things. So many of them would easily fail Solomon Asch's line judgement test.
Two really close observations. My wife has been forced or be fired to take really 4 covid shots, got out of the last one, thank God, but also forced to take the flu shot every year for almost 40 years. Every year she’s sick, this year she’s been sick for 22 days in a row now. She’s convinced all of these pharmaceuticals are useless or worse. The second thing is how money controls and corrupts people. I’m not saying that money doesn’t create cures in a laboratory, but funding has been pulled from lab work at her hospital and many of the surgeons work in the labs as well. All get government money all are screaming liberal democrats, all are pissed off that the gravy train has shut down. I see it elsewhere where people that have got rich from covid don’t want the government money to stop.

Considering that we have at least a 5 Trillion dollar annual health care expenditure in the USA and that is almost twice as expensive as any other country in the world, it means there is a lot of waste in the system. We are also not the healthiest country in the world since the focus is on treating the symptoms of the disease states and not reversing the root causes of ill health which are many. The challenge for RFK Jr. if he is confirmed is daunting. I still believe the Congressman in DC as well as the American public need to be educated as to why we are not a healthy nation. WE need a NATIONAL DEBATE in DC with teeth. It also traces back to Eisenhower's prescient warnings about the malign influence of the military-industrial complex and of scientific-technical elites, both being empowered by federal dollars. Think about it--how is it that "public health" got perverted into rationalizing a biowarfare development program?
The weaponizing of pathogens is forbidden under the Biological Weapons Convention of 1972 and experimentation on humans without their consent is forbidden under the Nuremberg code, but international law doesn't stop agencies that operate in the dark world of plausible deniability from inventing semi-plausible "dual use" pretexts and using suitable civilian cut-outs and even foreign laboratories to do their dirty work.
The evidence strongly points to SARS-CoV-2 having been deliberately bioengineered under such pretexts. It wasn't just the NIAID (Fauci's branch of the NIH) that funded work at Wuhan and arranged technology transfers for gain-of-function work (i.e. the passaging techniques for increasing infectivity in humans invented by Ralph Baric of the University of North Carolina) using the EcoHealth Alliance as a civilian conduit to give subawards to the Chinese. The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) funded EcoHealth with timing and dollar amounts that paralleled the NIAID's funding of EcoHealth.
Long before the gain of function work was performed (starting in 2009), the now infamous USAID funded a global hunt for dangerous viral pathogens in wild animals (mostly in tropical regions) under a collaborative research agreement called "PREDICT," led by Jonna Mazet of the University of California, Davis. The ostensible purpose of Mazet's project was to "predict" the outbreak of pandemics by monitoring viruses in wild animals that might cross over and infect humans. A strange thing about PREDICT though was that the researchers didn't really care about how infective the viruses were (something you would need to know to make an actual prediction), only about collecting their genetic sequences if they were potentially dangerous.
Another strange thing about PREDICT was who some of the collaborating organizations were--the lead organization for the virus hunt in China was none other than the EcoHealth Alliance, and their Chinese counterparts were led by none other than the Bat Lady of Wuhan. Ten years before the gain of function work was performed on a bat coronavirus, the same American/Chinese cast of characters collected the bats from a cave where two miners had died from a SARS-like illness and isolated the coronavirus responsible. Mazet, acting in her capacity as the head of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee at UC Davis, even signed off on the safety of the animal-handling practices of the Wuhan lab in later NIAID grant proposals.
An EcoHealth Alliance executive who turned whistle-blower, Andrew Huff, stated in his book _The Truth About Wuhan_ that he was told that the real purpose of PREDICT was to collect genetic sequences of dangerous viruses for subsequent gain-of-function work, and that this was being done at the behest of the research arm of the Director of National Intelligence, the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Agency (IARPA). It is also clear from an EcoHealth gain-of-function grant proposal (called "DEFUSE") that the creation of a potential pandemic-causing pathogen could also be used as a pretext for creating a vaccine against it too.
Thus, the real point wasn't to "predict" a pandemic; it was to gain the capacity to _cause_ a deadly pandemic and to have a "cure" in hand that could be rapidly administered under Emergency Use Authorization rules. Naturally, friends of Fauci, Gates, etc. could profit from selling "cures" whether they worked or not, but it is convenient of course to deploy a biopharmaceutical technology that could make direct use of the genetic sequences collected by PREDICT, namely mRNA and DNA "vaccine" technologies. Ultimately, the mRNA compounds were used for COVID, though the DNA technologies being developed by Inovio Pharmaceuticals were also in the running (Inovio's work having been funded by the Gates Foundation and DARPA among others). The story of how Inovio's CEO got too close to Trump and then was muscled out of the COVID game by the FDA refusing to approve its DNA electroporation transfection device is an informative example of the political economy of how corporatist Deep State "public-private" partnerships actually work.
It is interesting to speculate on the motives of the various players in this story. Having formerly curated the database that tracked research sponsorship for the University of California system, I had a particular what was going on at UC. In the case of UC Davis, Mazet got promoted to a cushy Vice Provost job, likely because her PREDICT agreement brought in $70 million to the UC Davis administration in indirect cost reimbursements from USAID and perhaps because some the PREDICT collaborators were politically very well connected. Not only was EcoHealth covertly managing what amounted to a biological version of the Manhattan Project with the Chinese on behalf of the US intelligence community, another notable collaborator was Metabiota Inc. Some of Metabiota's share of the USAID "PREDICT" grift (and grift from Metabiota refurbishing biowarfare labs in Ukraine) flowed back to a venture capital firm, Rosemont Seneca, which means Hunter Biden got some of the swag. Hunter wrote glowlingly and frequently about USAID in his emails; now that he has been pardoned maybe he can testify about what he knows.
Not to be outdone by UC Davis, UCLA got hundreds of millions of dollars of COVID research money from Fauci's NIAID. Strangely enough, it was UCLA's Deans who lobbied for a tougher mandatory vax policy for all UC employees and students, and it was UCLA that was unusually aggressive in enforcing the policy. All the UC campuses with medical research host clinical trials funded by the usual Big Pharma suspects, some like UCSF also enjoy major funding from the Gates Foundation, etc. Conflicts of interest abound all across the UC system.
We can't just narrowly focus on a particular federal agency or a particular branch of academia; the corruption of the biomedical sector and the Deep State quest for power touches every institution in our society and was orchestrated at deeper levels of the Deep State. It is indeed odd to see 1960's vintage anti-authoritarians have now turned into the "don't trust anyone over 30" power-lusters they once railed against, but this phenomena tends to confirm Acton's remark about how power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

There are two basic concepts that moved us into this deranged medical world that says we are smarter than God or evolution that used trial and error to form the animal food chain. DOD etc believes bio weapons are a basic tool to destroy the enemy and an antidote is necessary because you can't control the outcome. Secondly, the medicine man believes that manipulating cellular function and the DNA of all living things will improve on God's design or speed up the evolution of man. Risk of irradicating life on earth becomes closer to reality each day we keep going down this road to hell. The problem is we are dealing with consensus science and any one that challenges this is "the odd man out". Fauci of course is the champion of this concept that says he is the only true medical science God. Unfortunately, many honest medical researchers were labeled "odd man out" Fauci destroyed the careers of anyone who would not kiss his ring. My view.
You make an excellent point, one that religious and secular people alike can agree on. There is such a thing as an innate human nature that we tamper with only at our own great peril.
The "progressive" ideal of human reason supposedly enabling experts to centrally redesign society and even redesign man's nature, allegedly to usher in a utopian existence for everyone, confuses rationality with a pretense of omniscience. Each of us needs to exercise their own intellectual autonomy to overcome ignorance precisely because _nobody_ knows everything that is worth knowing. One also needs moral autonomy so that one can profit from whatever one does learn, and so that one can freely share their hard-won knowledge with others. Central planning is in fact the thwarting of rational planning by all the non-central actors, not a means for using reason to improve society.
Progressivism also confuses experimental sciences with a pretense that some anointed scientific expert (like Dr. Fauci) can function as the final authority on what is true and good for everyone else. This is wrong for a couple of reasons. First, experimental sciences must rely upon a decentralized process where one's conclusions always being scrutinized by independent peers, thus requiring transparency of one's data, reasoning, and materials and methods one used for obtaining the data, and requiring open discourse so that anyone can debate one's conclusions. No single individual can ever be "The Science."
Second, experimental scientists can't have the last word on everything simply because _a posteriori_ experimentalism isn't the only method for formulating valid generalizations about reality from our experiences of it. We also derive _a priori_ knowledge from an analysis of conceptual meanings and from introspection of self-evident truths that are inherent in our very ability to engage in meaningful discourse about the world with each other. Moreover, there are many aspects of our understanding of human nature and society where we simply aren't in a position to directly observe the mental states of others, let alone compare them to measurement standards to quantify our observations, nor are we even in a position to run controlled experiments for a proper logical induction of the causal laws involved. Neurobiology doesn't get us very far in understanding humans.
In fields like psychology and most social sciences we are forced to rely on qualitative indirect inferences about the relevant mental states (giving these fields a notorious lack of rigor in their generalizations). In a field like economics, one can achieve theoretical rigor, but only by confining oneself to the self-evident truth of human purposefulness as a starting premise (something which economists frequently fail to do). Fields like mathematics, geometry, and logic are likewise derived from _a priori_ truths, usually with a mix of analytical and self-evident generalizations. It is precisely in the area of understanding human nature (especially as it applies to the formulation of ethics, for example) where an insistence the rigor of laboratory experimentation proves to be an obstacle and not an aid to the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom.
Actual intellectual progress, and whatever social benefits flow from it, is an emergent property of spontaneous interactions among many actively-engaged individual minds, not something that is centrally organized and controlled. As Eisenhower warned us about, centralizing science in the hands of a federally-funded elite winds up corrupting both science and politics.

OK, but before we go off trying to fix the 'culture' of these bureaucratic agencies can we first ask, 'why do we need them at all?' If we discover via critical thinking analysis that they're not needed - or worse yet, they create negative health results - then let's skip over the 'culture' thing and simply close them down permanently.

Given such an objective they funded the development of a Profession to service such ends. So is this where Bush took charge to implement the needed particulars?
