My mother in law had a talent show every Christmas Eve. She would read a long story and some of the Christmas music that was performed was very serious. Well my family is a bit more lively. One year my husband and boys pretended to be the Chipmunks and so they took a deep breath of helium and sang the song Christmas Christmas time is here. Another year we all got up and sang Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer. Well my mother in law didn’t think it was funny at all. Everyone else was laughing. Funny thing was at the time I was a grandma. I thought it was funny. You have to have a sense of humor to like that song.

We all have negative aspects in our personalities or in our lives that we have to deal with, many on a daily basis. It could be an addiction, a bad habit, not treating someone right, a critical spirit. Anyone of these things can hold us back. God always wants us to strive to achieve a higher level. Any time we go higher part of our flesh has to go lower. If we are going to share in Christ’s glory we have to share in his suffering. There is a suffering that we as believers are supposed to endure. It’s not tragedies, sickness, living poor, broke, defeated, no, 1st Peter 4 tells us what it is. It says if you are willing to suffer for Christ then you have decided to put aside your wrong desires.
The suffering God is talking about is saying no to our flesh. When you resist temptation, when you bite your tongue and don’t tell someone off, when you swallow your pride and forgive someone that hurt you. Your flesh will tell you this is not right, this is not fair, let me tell them off. Many times it’s uncomfortable to make the right decision. We have to suffer through that period of not getting our way. When God asks us to do something hard, he asks us to walk away from a friend that is polluting our life, he asks us to be more disciplined in what we watch, God is never trying to take something from us He’s trying to give something to us. Whenever God is moving you away from something He’s always moving you towards something better. God has our best interest at heart. If we will be willing to suffer through being uncomfortable, not getting our way, then our character is being developed. As we grow as we mature, Gods blessings will be released.
Whatever you feed is going to grow. If you feed the addiction, feed the jealousy, feed the bad habit, the hot temper, you just give in whenever you feel like it, it’s going to become stronger. You see, you need to change what you’re feeding. The next time you’re tempted, take a deep breath, step back and pray, God I’m asking you for your discipline, turn around and walk away.
When I started running my business I stopped hanging around with the people I grew up with. Most all of them stayed on that same wrong path, drinking, drugs, causing trouble, I had moved past that life. This didn’t go over well with them. They tried to pull me back, they tried to get between me and my family. They did things, they lied to me, and as hard as it was, being alone, losing my “friends” I stepped away, Without me even knowing why God had shown me the truth. I still see these people, some are even family. I realize now God had forced me to move away from them. 40 years later many of them are still feeding the same addictions,the same bad habits, the same poor choices.
Haven’t we seen this process in a large scale with the medical establishment and the government that ran it. It’s incomprehensible to see how so many chose greed over people’s health and well being. It seems obvious they ignored the conviction they felt inside. They chose their greed over honesty. Even if they were unaware forcing people to do things against their will, taking people’s freedom, taking away their ability to make a living can never be the right decision. It seems they ignored what God had brought to them for so long, that they became numb to that conviction.
It may be difficult but it’s always better to make right choices and be uncomfortable for a while than to keep going the same way and miss your destiny, the ultimate destiny being what comes after this life. The pain of discipline is temporary, but the pain of compromise is permanent.
One of the best prayers we can ever pray is God help me to stay sensitive to your voice. God help me respond to Your conviction. Help me not to go against my conscience.
I believe we are all here because we did choose to go with our conscience. And Dr. Malone, as hard as it was for you and your family, you went with your conscience, you listened to the voice inside, you followed Gods conviction, and it seems you were blessed with your wife, your homestead, this sub stack which is like an extended family. Romans 8:28-30 tells us that “God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.” Those “things” in life can be mild or devastating, but in the end, it’s for our good—and many times we see it years later.
That passage goes on to say, “He also predestined us to be conformed to the image of his son.” That is and has been my prayer—to have the character of Christ, and reject the tendencies of my sinful flesh.
Being like Christ does not mean being a weak man or a wuss, it means that my emotions are restrained like a powerful horse is restrained by the bridle that it wears and the rider that directs him—the analogy being Christ, through his grace, mercy, and law (that is just, holy, and good) restrains me BECAUSE I love Him and want to submit to his direction and character—Hence all things work together for good—to those who love God.
Will I love him today? If so, I must now set my phone aside and pray, because I’m troubled about many things and I want to conform to Christ’s image/character and be like him not like me.

I ask for guidance in all I do...and I was guided to let a very negative relative out of my life too. It was not forgive and continue having a family relationship with someone who was untrustworthy. Its hard to believe that so many in this world worship money,...and have no conscience about how they attain it. Our government is the same...it has put money, before the best interests of the people...it was set up to serve.
I had a deer collision about 6 weeks ago traveling about 55 mph. The deer had a large rack, as all I can remember seeing was his face with that rack in the grill of my vehicle. Never even had time to react to hit the brakes! It was quite a hard hit as the radiator was bent in the middle and fluid poured out as all the pieces to headlights and front of my car were strewn down the road as I attempted to get off the highway. Believe me, you don’t want to get run over by a reindeer!
I collected my nerves as I came to a stop and immediately thanked God for sparing my life. The airbags did not deploy and I wondered if they had what would have happened? Could I have gone off the road into the trees? Again, as I sat there wondering why didn’t the bags deploy, my question was answered by the most calm I’ve ever experienced. This voice inside my head said “it was not your time yet”.
The man at the body shop said that’s amazing the air bags didn’t deploy, there’s nothing wrong with them, they should have deployed with the hit you took.
We should thank God everyday for His protection. I know He was riding with me that afternoon.

Precisely why I have never agreed with airbags. Because of them the gov now advises driving with hands in a less safe configuration on the wheel because exactly of which you feared happening.

Taught 10&2 early 70s; cross country driving required shifting hands all over the wheel - sometimes only one hand for a spell 🤫. 50 years later it’s 9&3 due to the air bags I have in my fleet (not the lawn tractor 🤣) but due to nerve damage even short trips across town require multiple positions.
Of course, if the zombie apocalypse holds off, the need for steering wheel air bags will be rendered moot as self driving matures. A boon for seniors who may be unwilling to trust the confounded machines.

Sorry to hear about your encounter. I live in the country and have had to stop occasionally to allow a herd of dear to cross the road. They are not to worry about. The danger is deer being chased by a predator because they don't care what is in their way they run full speed and can suddenly appear as if out of nowhere. I have seen a deer impact a mini van in this manner and nearly hit one myself on another occasion. A woods wise friend is always scanning the distance when he is riding with me and picks up the deer a couple of hundred meters away. Works in the open, not so well when passing through woods.
True story: like the husband with deafness, I’m very hard of hearing even with aides. I was taking a couple who are my Amish neighbors somewhere. The husband is also hard of hearing. His wife sat in the middle seat in the F150 and he and I carried on a conversation for several minutes before the wife dissolved into laughter. “What’s so funny?” She said that neither of us was talking even remotely about the same thing. These mixed up words can be both hilarious and at times dangerous!

Taught 10&2 early 70s; cross country driving required shifting hands all over the wheel - sometimes only one hand for a spell 🤫. 50 years later it’s 9&3 due to the air bags I have in my fleet (not the lawn tractor 🤣) but due to nerve damage even short trips across town require multiple positions.
Of course, if the zombie apocalypse holds off, the need for steering wheel air bags will be rendered moot as self driving matures. A boon for seniors who may be unwilling to trust the confounded machines.

This reminds me of when my son driving a VW Rabbit years ago and was hit by a deer. The police officer said It was the first time he ever saw a rabbit kill a deer!? A man following in a pickup truck asked if he could have it. The officer said please help yourself!
Sorry to hear about your encounter. I live in the country and have had to stop occasionally to allow a herd of dear to cross the road. They are not to worry about. The danger is deer being chased by a predator because they don't care what is in their way they run full speed and can suddenly appear as if out of nowhere. I have seen a deer impact a mini van in this manner and nearly hit one myself on another occasion. A woods wise friend is always scanning the distance when he is riding with me and picks up the deer a couple of hundred meters away. Works in the open, not so well when passing through woods.
True story: like the husband with deafness, I’m very hard of hearing even with aides. I was taking a couple who are my Amish neighbors somewhere. The husband is also hard of hearing. His wife sat in the middle seat in the F150 and he and I carried on a conversation for several minutes before the wife dissolved into laughter. “What’s so funny?” She said that neither of us was talking even remotely about the same thing. These mixed up words can be both hilarious and at times dangerous!

We all needed a Dr. Frances Kelsey heading up the Covid Task Force in 2020. Such a doctor would have made all the difference in the world.
