Eloquently written. The technocratic form of totalitarianism that is bearing down on us full force seems to represent the latest update to the Promethean task of bringing nature to heel. Its hubristic and terrifying aspirations are to force the natural world to submit to the intellect of homo not so sapiens. The sapient human recognizing the limits of intelligence, recognizes human fallibility, acknowledges that non-linear ways of thinking sometimes lead to the best solutions, and acknowledges that spiritual and intuitive pathways are often needed to answer questions that the rational mind cannot solve. Like Icarus, those who fly too high will eventually find their wings melting and will fall to earth. But the very existence of the myth shows that the Icarian fantasy lives deep within the soul of man, and will not be easily expunged. It will likely rise and fall again, and again.
Total agreement that "non linear ways of thinking sometimes lead to the best solutions." Our soul should not be restricted to the order imposed upon us, but let it be free to soar where it will find new ways of expression that will benefit the world.
Mark, yes...that must explain why the movie "Groundhog Day" struck a disturbing nerve in so many people. At it's core it is essentially "Icarus Day." It signaled the repeating threads in our culture that promise new heights of health, wealth and pleasure but deliver crashing torment and frustration as generations come and go. Wars...economic roller coasters...careening political schemes...power grabs...rising and falling, again and again...
In communist China, colleges each year produce 1.38 million graduated engineers. In American colleges each year produce 141 thousand engineers. So you would think China would be far advanced producing ten times the engineers, but they’re not. One of the main reasons is freedom! Most all kids in China are not allowed to pick the desired field of their choosing. They are told what type of engineer they will be and then placed into a position. This is also their mindset. Being a free thinker is not ok, in fact it can get you in trouble. It’s driven into most Chinese engineers to not try to be innovative and they’re not.
Up until now American freedom is what drives American graduate engineers to be innovative, productive and successful. This is why we still have the largest companies and honestly the most innovative companies. This is also why China steals all of our technology. Thank God we are well advanced in weapons, it’s one of the only reasons why for now we remain an independent nation. Our politicians have tried their best to sell out America even in this area but we are still well advanced in most all areas. At least for now.
Our government and our politicians are doing their best to destroy the middle and upper middle class. What was supposed to be a plan to introduce capitalism to the communists so they could witness the innovation has turned into an elite governing class that now desires to stamp down the competitive middle class so that they are forced to become dependent on the elite government. It’s a tough job but with wide open borders destroying peoples communities, schools and livelihoods it is becoming much more possible. Innovation will dry up as the fundamental change of America goes into its final phase. The American government strives for two classes of people the elite government class and the poor needy class. I’m afraid one man, one President, who has only 3 years left to serve, even with the will of 100 cannot turn this tide of communism around. J.Goodrich
The Chinese government allows the most intelligent students to go to further study; yes, they give them the assigned profession. Surely, that is better than giving everybody a medal, passing everybody, telling kids they can be anything they want AND NOW ENDING UP WITH AMERICAN STUDENTS WHO CAN'T READ, WRITE or DO MATH!
MERIT BASED EDUCATION IS NEEDED IN USA; BUT perhaps it is too late. HOMESCHOOLING IS THE ONLY Way, except the younger parents are stupid too. YIKES.
And i agree with your post, 1 man Pres Trump, even with the will, intelligence and work ethic of 1000 men may not be able to turn this situation around. BUT THANK GOD HE IS TRYING TO SAVE US, and all THE HATERS too, who are too hateful and indoctrinated to know better.
If things are working as they should, the innovative mind can find a place in R&D. But R&D is expensive. Sometimes ideas work, sometimes they don't. Sometimes you might not get there until the 10th iteration of redesign. Or 100th. Maybe it took generations to accumulate the knowledge that went into producing, say, a Volvo.
But my gosh, if you can stand by and let the innovators take all the financial pain associated with R&D, then step in at a moment at which they're teetering on the edge of financial ruin.... Eureka! You'll get all the drawings, documents, tooling, etc. for pennies on the dollar.
Per Wikipedia, BTW, Geely Holding owns a 78.7% share of Volvo at present.
When I look at the real “useless eaters” in our society, I have to look no further than Washington DC! It’s sometimes hard to listen to them complain like a child that doesn’t get a candy bar at the checkout isle, because they had to work the weekend to get the government open, a government they caused to be shut down, but let that go. It’s difficult watching politicians personally make millions of dollars selling off technology and weapons that were invented by well educated innovative people, people that made their own way in life, while the politician made a profit on someone else’s hard work and talent, its despicable to me. How can so many despicable corrupt scumbag lawyers all end up in one small city?
Good observation, James. For the communist movement, it began in 1933 when Marxist FDR intentionally began hiring commies into American government. His affinity for communism was such that his sobriquet for Josef Stalin was “Uncle Joe”. Moreover, in his 1941 Russian Lend Lease program he intentionally gave Stalin nuclear power plant material and technology. I don’t have all the names of the power brokers, but you can bet the Great Depression was designed to cause Americans to abandon capitalism in favor of communism in America. In 1960, Khrushchev was correct in his assessment of the American experiment.
This reminds me of a woman I knew for a while who had been trained in China to teach electronics. She had a rural background, but a good mind. She was working in an electronics factory in America way below her supposed level of competence. But when she attempted to move up to the position of repair technician, she failed. She told me that she had given "all my lessons back to my teacher." She had not been trained to DO with purpose and good understanding; she had only been trained to repeat facts that she barely understood.
In spite of this deplorable failure in China's higher education system (which we also suffer from here to some extent), some who follow these things (not me) see the Chinese as very much advanced technologically beyond were we are today in the U.S.
They have, after all, learned the difficult lessons of manufacturing precision products and do so (though I think the Taiwanese are better at it) in spite of their lousy education system. While here, we have given up a lot of this skill, with Samsung and others currently having a terrible time establishing productive manufacturing facilities in Texas, even though billions have been invested in buildings and machines.
Both societies are producing good coders, but code needs good computers to operate on, and the Chinese have an edge on us in that area. They are also less constrained by the intellectual limitations placed on us in the West, which have risen to ridiculous levels. Thus, we see the Chinese (I believe it was them) beginning to train machines to think like humans really think, which is by using images.
The neo-totalitarians insist that humans be treated as interchangeable societal units. An Eritrean who sets foot in Norway is just as Norwegian as someone whose great-grandparents came of age there. There is no culture, are no traditions to be protected, preserved, maintained.
If my A320 is down for maintenance, let it be in Tokyo, rather than Leh.
I love reading Mattias, thank you for reposting this insightful and thought provoking essay. I'm so glad for you both to have your paths cross, it is like having two schools of thought and experience being grafted, like a tree or plant.
I just moved from a most intense portion of holy scripture for a pause, and jumped onto The rise and fall of the Neuralink society, and the writing was so intense and so human that I did not notice the difference between the two texts, and this was after only two or three pages. P.S. where in also YOU are risen with HIM, through the faith of the operation of GOD, who has raised HIM from the dead.
After your description of the flight through the Himalayas, I was ready to use the plastic bag myself! 🤢 And I feel extremely sorry for the animals in Leh. Starving to death is very painful.
If most young people today feel they have “shit jobs” …just wait until AI really gets integrated into every detail of our lives. If they don’t cease heavily indoctrinating our college youths in Socialism, Marxism or Fascism and actually start “educating” them, I would venture to guess that suicides will continue to rise each year. Each young person starts life with a dream, and when that dream is ignored, shattered or unattainable due to lack of education, or the means to obtain that education, then hopelessness comes into play. Very destructive emotionally…..
Dr. Malone, you have another gift in life besides medicine…….creating colorful mental images with your writing. Thank you for sharing both gifts with us.
Absolutely love Desmet. During the “ pandemic “ I felt surrounded by individuals who seemed to have lost the ability to reason. It wasn’t unlike the old movie” Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Only after reading his book on Totalitarianism did I begin to understand how it happened and happens to this very day!
Ditto, Mikey. His words tell scary truths, but they comfort and challenge us too. Us simply saying NO to the Controls as they are offered, and being ethical, human beings, sincerely Truth Telling, to those who are stuck in the Mass, we'll get through this all.
A soul stirring read indeed! Thanks for sharing. I learned quite a bit from my unintentional but wildly creative chaos garden this year that was full of delights and disappointments. Mr. Brody summed it up nicely with the reference to Icarus.
As I summarize this observation for myself, I see the way I have avoided the "straight line" of control is to allow myself the freedom to improvise and follow my natural instincts of wanting so many things in my life to be curved or circular. Following my natural tendencies in life has given me health and freedom; unless the tendencies are from a place of mental and emotional imbalance. Then, not so much...

Thank you Docs Malone. Great stack! Especially, now, to remind us, before Thanksgiving, a time we'll be together with family and friends to Speak Out. Do not "go under", hide, stay silent.

At 1h11 -Dr. D reminds us -to Speak Out Sincerely. "We shouldn't try to convince too much. Just live up to our ethical duty as a human being. .. "To say, "I am not absolutely sure. I will just testify what I feel inside. And to me, I will do my best to articulate what I feel is wrong."
At 1:14 -"Are you hopeful?" 1:14-1:20 Dr. Desmet, "I am realistic in the short term. and optimistic in the long term. I believe we find ourselves in a metaphysical revolution." He explains how the last was in the 17th century - the Religious view of man in the world was replaced by the Materialistic view of world. ... bringing us to his words we read here today.
At 1:20 - "Will we have a Social Cred Systems? Do you think that will happen here in the UK?" Dr. Mattias Desmet, "Yes, definitely." Lucy, "Oh."

If the chinese advance their engineers on the socialist beloved basis of equity you have an answer to why they accomplish so little.
The Chinese government allows the most intelligent students to go to further study; yes, they give them the assigned profession. Perhaps there's a subterranean feature there that makes the place magnetic to scumbags. What geologists might informally describe as "scumbagnetic."
51 days and counting of paid vaca for the House. Apparently called to return but with no set date.
Really unbelievable. I work every weekend if I can just to try to keep my head above water, and I don’t honestly know if I can.

Wow. Thats some heavy, deep stuff. Food for the soul, most certainly.
I’m saving this, for it needs to be read again, perhaps several times.

Listened twice. Staggering. DARPA.
Graceful, profound travelogue.
One suicide in 25 years, now one per month. Blue-lighted device screens wreck the dopaminergic system. DARPA again.
The Einstein quote is from Emerson’s “Self-Reliance”.
Wow, this Mattias gentleman has an amazing grasp of the English language. It didn't matter the subject, it was very entertaining to read.
I recall, when in my 20's, I did write poetry and had a pretty strong vocabulary, but the decades of work a day, and not using it, it faded away.
Very refreshing read Dr M, thanks so much for sharing this...
agree with all and me too.. practicing some and reading more poetry to regain at least a little..

I am inclined to say the basic human animal is driven more by opportunistic empiricism.
Beautiful. I had just finished reading a new article posted by Max Jones on Unlimited Hangout titled " Cold Harbor - Eugenics, Epstein and Big Tech ".
