Several years ago I was having some health issues and it was suggested I do the Med diet and, better yet, the Blue Zone diet. I got a book, did some research... and then the guy from Nat Geo who coined "blue zones" interviewed my grandmother (who lived to almost 107 and by herself until 8 mos before her death). When she told him she felt the reason for her longevity was chocolate and filet mignon, he abruptly ended the interview and never used her info. We also had lived in Nicaragua very near Costa Rica, and I knew for a fact that they ate a lot of animal proteins and eggs. Doing more research, I found that the whole Blue Zone thing was a business, and has been sold to the Seventh Day Adventists (vegetarians). I read Dr. Catherine Shanahan's book Deep Nutrition and it totally changed how we eat, and I feel SO much better than I used to.

I took the same road after 25 years of a vegetarian diet, and am so much healthier for it. One important point that I did not see in your post (I may have missed it!) is that consumption of meat from grass-fed cows is essential. Same goes for free-range chickens. Industrialized meat and egg production is unhealthy for humans and the environment. Meat and eggs from local happy cows and chickens keeps me happy and healthy. Enjoy your workshop today. Joe Saladin is terrific.
