Imagine if you knew someone that hated themselves so much they wouldn’t celebrate their own birthday. They thought of themselves as an evil, racist, horribly bigoted person. When they hit milestone birthdays like 40, 50, 60 they not only wouldn’t celebrate them they wanted others to hate that day and be miserable.

For me, I wouldn’t want to be around a person like that, certainly not live with them. It’s a kind of suicidal sadomasochist existence. When you hate yourself with such a passion you actually thrive on others misery as well.

Imagine hating your own country this way. These self loathing suicidal sociopaths are saying America and Americans are not worthy of celebrating our founding. No country on earth has 40% of its citizens detest its history the way democrats do. This historically is what communist revolutionaries do, erase a countries history. If this proves one thing it’s that “Liberalism is a Mental Disorder”, (Michael Savage).

James! When I saw your name I was so glad to hear from you. Your contributions always get my attention and I know I can question aspects I may disagree with and will always get a civil response. Good cheer to you.

Nice to see your signature writing here again James!! You are a carpenter in more ways than one. You hit the nail on the head pretty much every time with words of wisdom.

When I enlisted I swore an oath that, now decades later, still holds true. Uphold, support and defend the constitution against ALL enemies both foreign and domestic! There are only two options folks. You’re either for or against. There’s no third.

Sadly the domestic are beginning to outnumber the foreign

Thank you for this much needed recommendation. I'm taking it and when done will pass to my family. All they learn from school and their friends is how bad this country is. It is incredible how negatively influenced our children are against the country. Look at the 250 celebration spectacle where no one will sing for it. This disgusts me. All of these people have made money thanks to our country, but refuse it any allegiance and basically dishonor it. In favor of what? Cannot see the nose in front of their faces.

Another book I plan to read for the anniversary is The Federalist Papers. Many years ago this was required reading and I remember being in awe of the brilliance of our founders. Time to revisit this.

Micheal Nash, Ph. D.'s avatar

Should be required reading for all members of Congress and SCOTUS.

Eric was recently interviewed about this book by Jan on Epoch Times. Well worth watching as a precursor to reading his book. The founding of our country had some remarkable people in remarkable times…and frankly today we are witnessing and part of it now too. There are remarkable people today stepping up and doing remarkable things at great cost to themselves. They see a higher purpose. God Bless us all.

Thank you for this excellent and timely coverage!

I hughly appreciate and support our country. I participated in the Tea Party efforts. I've been sorely concerned with the deterioration of respect and support for our nation and its citizenry. Particularly as spurred by our covid experiences, I've been grateful for this community and its leadership as an avenue for efforts to impact our course of events.

I've been heartened by our President's efforts to restore and beautify our country as we approach our 250th anniversary. May he have the time to achieve these goals! Thank you for bringing this book to our attention and in time to share it.

One of my own takes has been that while we've had regrettable shortcomings, over the years they've been identified and worked on. Many of our issues have been beneficially addressed. There are evidences that this process continues (despite notable and disappointing oppositions).

Time is short. If our 'experiment' is continue we need to rally the minds and hearts of a majority of our fellow citizens. Our education systems, msm and all too many have/are making this a significant challenge.

Grateful to be here and for all the patriots rising to meet the challenge!

So grateful for the timing as well. Too dreadful PBS and America considers Fiction writer Ken Burns a Natural Treasure. Not.

We're on the same wavelength ‼️‼️

Much against my rule of not feeding the beast, I ordered 3 copies of it today from Amazon. I did that so that he can get on the TOP SELLERS LIST over Jill Biden & Mike Pence ‼️‼️‼️

I got one for our family. Another for my sister and the third one for my grandson who is VERY CONCERNED 😟 about the state of our country.

I'm even thinking 🤔 of starting a BOOK 📖 CLUB group where we can meet, greet and learn about the founding of our great country ‼️‼️‼️

Getting ready to start Chapter 2. I'm easily distracted but so far, quite interesting and you have to love the opening scene!

It's all theater...all the time.

We pick our cast of characters.

We write our own script for the most part.

All of life's a stage and we are but actors in a role. W. Shakespeare

Which will you choose to play if you could? Villain ,Victim, or Virtuous?

Sonia Nordenson's avatar

I'll keep choosing Virtuous, thank you.

Thanks for the recommendation Doc.

I don’t need to read it to know this is still the greatest country on earth. I was a history major and while I didn’t use it to teach in any schools I know this isn’t a perfect country by any means but you won’t find a country that has been as generous as ours with the resources we bountifully have. The ideas created here from the freedom we have couldn’t have been done in any other country. I blame it all on social media and more on the Chinese made TikTok. I don’t like how the country is right now but we’ve been through worse and I’ll do anything to get it back on the right track. God Bless America. Love it or leave it!

Thank-you very much for this book recommendation & for the series, "Turn". I will definitely read the book & watch the series. Having grown-up approximately 3-miles from part of Washington's escape route from Fort Lee, NJ, when American troops were surprised at sunrise by British mercenary troops, I have long been interested in our nation's founding. I still live approximately 15-miles from that same route, & less than 3-miles from a major Hessian skirmish. Echoes from our Revolution are pretty much everywhere I go in the course of my daily travels. I recently read another very good book, "Rediscovering America", by Scott S. Powell. I learned quite a bit from that book, that I did not know. One thing that I learned is the very disingenuous nature of the 1619 narrative that has been pushed in recent years. According to the author of this book, "At the time of the founding of the Jamestown colony, slavery existed all over the world, but it was not planned or predetermined by the Jamestown settlers. The Africans introduced to Jamestown were in fact former slaves captured by an English privateer ship from Portuguese slave ships at sea, & they were traded for food & water. In that trade, the Africans were accepted by the Jamestown colonists as indentured servants, with a status equal to the English, Scottish, & Irish-born indentured servants who also came to America in this time-frame. The status of indentured servants meant that freedom was granted after their indenture or bond was completed - generally a term of four to seven years. The slave trade did later come to Virginia around 1650, but not in the time & way of the common narrative surrounding Jamestown, which does not in any way diminish the problem or excuse the institution of slavery in early America". More & more it seems that those on the Left are determined to paint an unflattering picture of America for their own deeply disturbing agenda. The indoctrination & anti-American rhetoric in our public schools has been going on for several generations, whereby the average younger adult can no longer separate fact from fiction. They simply swallow whole whatever the "narrative Du Jour" is, which is very likely why so many of them fell for all of the covid nonsense. They appear to be incapable of seeking or digging for the truth & enjoy being spoon-fed from highly suspect sources.

Micheal Nash, Ph. D.'s avatar

Have read that slaves generally better treated, being valuable property, than were indentured whose living conditions often so severe as to lead to premature death.

Jean's avatar

Good point. One might even entertain the possibility that the descendants of the slaves (as compared to populations they came from) have meaningfully benefitted from becoming/being US citizens.

Debra Nolasco's avatar

That would not surprise me.

Eric Metaxas is brilliant and the timing is impeccable. Two books ordered for gifting our library and a friend’s. This is a perfect time to witness the true celebration of 250yrs. God Bless Trump for cleaning up our history that has been confiscated by the left flanks.

"The American Revolution produced a constitutional republic built on individual rights, self-government, and the radical idea that legitimate power comes from the consent of the governed."

They can thank the king: The United States fought the American Revolution primarily over King George III's Currency Act, which forced the colonists to conduct their business only using printed bank notes borrowed from the Bank of England at interest.

"The refusal of King George 3rd to allow the colonies to operate an honest money system, which freed the ordinary man from the clutches of the money manipulators, was probably the prime cause of the revolution." -- Benjamin Franklin, Founding Father

The Definitive Treaty of Peace 1783

https://avalon.law.yale.edu/18th_century/paris.asp

"After America declared independence from Great Britain, the Treaty of 1783 was signed treaty identifies King of England as prince of U.S. - completely contradicting premise that America won The War of Independence - though King George III gave up most of his claims over American colonies, he kept his right to continue receiving payment for his business venture of colonizing America."

"The Virginia Company was a joint-stock company established in London in 1606 with the aim of creating an English settlement in Virginia.

Formed by a group of investors, it received a royal charter from King James I, allowing it to colonize and cultivate land in the New World.

The company is best known for founding Jamestown in 1607, which became the first permanent British settlement in America.

Despite initial optimism, the colony faced severe challenges, including disease, starvation, and conflicts with the indigenous Powhatan people."

If America had really won the War of Independence, they would never have agreed to pay debts and reparations to the King of England.

America's blood soaked War of Independence against the British bankrupted America, turning its citizens into permanent debt slaves of the King.

In the War of 1812, the British torched and burned to the ground White House and all U.S. government buildings, destroying ratification records of the U.S. Constitution.

I know many friends with TDS who are terrified of MAGA, like it's a communicable disease. I wonder if we should make MALA hats for them, just to make things clear: Make America Lousy Again!

I graduated HS in 1975 in Fairfax County, VA. Was on the National Mall for the 200th birthday celebration on July 4th, 1976. It was incredible. It didn’t matter your politics, it was a great celebration for a great nation. Will definitely add this book to my reading. But the lack of reading is one of many core issues in our national decline. Not only do few read, but fewer yet read works by those that they disagree with. Those who most need to hear this book’s message are those least likely to read it.
