Yes!! Finally Doc! I used to hay at my uncles house in upstate NY ( real upstate by Seneca Lake). My Aunt would make Swichel for us and I never got the recipe. Thank you! I love that stuff. I will finally be able to make something that I haven’t had in 40 years! You just made my day! I have made watermelon sangria for today. It’s red and has blueberries in it so I feel it’s patriotic and it has chunks of watermelon plus orange and lime too but you can hardly see them In the container. I’ll be sipping that all day myself. Happy 4th to every American and to you too Doc! Let Freedom Ring!

One of the things that made colonial Americans so great was their ability to make lemonade out of lemons. Making something from nothing was done on a daily basis. Problems then were not solved with a trip to Home Depot. The incredible thing about our forefathers was that they could work with their hands and in the same breath they were brilliant with a pen, to the point that 250 years ago today they produced the Declaration of Independence. Take a minute to read this again, it is a work of art!

In Congress, July 4, 1776

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America, When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.--Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.

This document changed the direction of the world from governments ruling over people to the people having the power over the government and the world took notice. Happy Independence Day!

We're sipping our own very simple non-alcoholic recipe:

2 t unfiltered apple cider vinegar (with the "mother")

2 t raw honey

Warm filtered water to dilute (however much you like). Probably good cold too.

It's delicious! And we've found the combo to be an excellent sleep aid taken with the evening meal.

My grandparents drank this every day after their supper! Both lived to be 94 and 96 years!

this is close to health recipe I have morning, for several years now. Helps build the Immune system!

The recipe I use is:

1 tbsp raw honey (unfiltered and locally derived)

2 tsp of the unfiltered apple cider vinegar (with the "mother")

8 oz warm filtered water

A few months ago I started adding 5 grams of Creatine powder for the brain and muscles.

Hot dogs themselves would definitely have been on the menu; a hot dog is just another form of sausage, which the colonials would have made because it was the best way to preserve / use up the last bits of the pig/cow/sheep/mystery meat.

It was the punch line of any number of jokes.

"Don't buy sausages from him the day after a hanging."

"This isn't cat; cat sausage sheds!"

Happy 4th of July to you both and all your readers. The Swichel sounds terrific. It reminded me of the dressing I prepare for my salads. It follows:

5 oz unpasteurized apple cider

4tsp Dijon mustard

1/2 tbsp honey

Course Himalayan salt

Fresh ground pepper

I use no oil. It has a little bite to it and is tasty on my salad.

I think I would enjoy the Switchel. Thanks for the fun Substack.
