This has been a pet peeve of mine since Tom Delay was Majority Leader. My point was, "Just because the Democrats gerrymander doesn't mean we have to. Let's do the right thing." Naive, perhaps, but some of these districts are laughable. A national framework is needed, but, as your article makes clear, self-interested politicians stand in the way.
And the electorate has been educated in the public schools...
Because as long as one party gerrymanders the other had to. And this is nothing new. The population of Okla. was 55% dem/45% rep when statehood declared (1906?). Dems won 1st election and gerrymandered such that 4 districts dem, 1 was split and 1 rep. Stayed that was until 1960s when the fed imposed and forced redistricting.

This is absurdity at its worst. Since when does a state get to mess up its own electorate in retaliation for something that occurred elsewhere? I wish there were a procedure to THROW ALL THE BUMS OUT AND START OVER!
It wouldn't be as big an issue if the partisan divide wasn't bigger than it ever was. The number of voters that will cross party lines to vote for the other party's candidate is almost non-existent. "Independents" are also mostly people who will always vote right or left that don't want the label and don't like their own party even though they will almost always vote that way.
Thank you for this excellent article. Our Congress is a pale shadow of what it once was. This has been caused by professional politicians who are often more aligned with their financial backers than with their constituents. It is nevertheless the system that we have.
Thank God that the Virginia Supreme Court nullified the totally illegal, unconstitutional, political redistricting maneuver that Gov. 'Scamberger' and the Democrat legislature tried to shove down our throats prior to the midterm elections. There is divine justice.
And here we are. Our political gods casting dice on the lives of the people from Mount Olympus D.C. Forty Trillion Dollars National debt. Can't wait to wee what the next Forty Trillion brings us. I am sure we won't have to wait long. At least we have the freedom to cast a vote (and get that I voted sticker). And we'll have fun fun fun until "daddy takes the T-bird , our house, our jobs away.
I can’t tell you how grateful I am to have you two as a resource. Instead of having to take the time to write an essay about a given topic for anyone and everyone in my life that needs help thinking their way through a given thought line, I can just send them one of your pieces on the matter and trust you two nerds would do the same quality of work in your research as my nerdy self would! 🤓Haha
And most importantly, you’re always trying to lead people to the balanced high ground perspective in the middle of the two extreme factions on either side of any given subject that are intent on spewing their biased conspiracy theories on everyone and making you feel like you’re wrong for being balanced.
From the elevated seat of enlightened thought, one is able to see and separate the bias from the whole truth gathered from the whole spectrum of knowledge on any subject matter. So long as you are able to keep your seat, I will be a grateful supporter of your work. 🫶🏼

That redistricting in Texas was ordered by a fed. court. Calif's beef is with the fed not Texas
