A trillion here, a trillion there, pretty soon you're talking real money. And by real I mean "a lot," not real like "substantial unit value."

A dollar in the year I was born is worth over 10 today.

OK, SO THERE’S LOVE, LUCK, LAUGHS, AND I DON’T KNOW WHAT ELSE!

SO I STILL DON’T GET IT.

Oops !, thank you, Barbara…

Possibly a misplaced comment.

It’s incredible Nadal Hasan, the terrorist who killed 13 people and wounded 32 others at Fort Hood Texas is scheduled to be executed by firing squad. The liberal media is up in arms about the decision to use a firing squad and broadcast it on national TV. It’s funny though, remember the Trump rally in Butler Pennsylvania. Although CNN never broadcasts a Trump rally they just happened to be there the day Trump nearly got his head blown off. What a coincidence!

Gail Benton's avatar

BBC was also there.

And, there just happened to be a high speed camera to catch a bullet in the air.

James, Different circumstances. Don't you think there is enough trauma without becoming the Romans getting a kick out of the gladiators violently dying for the kicks. This direction of firing squad thirst isn't any different from betting on Jesus's death. Come on!

James Goodrich's avatar

I didn’t sentence the guy. I’m just pointing out how CNN would love to see and film Trump being assassinated, but when it comes to a terrorist that killed 13 and could have killed 45 they’re all up in arms. Just pointing out a fact.

Diesel $6.50...Food prices going up!

Peter Csoros's avatar

Did you pick up on the recent post about Russia producing something like 40% of all of the diesel fuel in the Earth? Don’t know how accurate that is. But the war would be a likely cause.

Likely part of it. Their facilities have been getting drone bombed lately. Here the theys are saying we lack capacity to refine, as well.

View from Central Wisconsin: Gasoline dropped to $4.149 from $4.509. Jumbo Eggs $1.15 Ground Chuck $4.59/lb. Baby Back Ribs racks (Frozen) down to $1.99/lb. Fresh Veggies down about a third due to harvest season. On the hwy corner 50lbs of potatoes for $13. Chicken is pretty reasonable now, but most beef is still high. It takes a lot less time to raise chickens and have them lay eggs than raise calves into cows and steers, plus there is the large meat processing plants owned by Brazil and Chinese companies effecting the meat prices. Now, buying a house is a whole nuther matter. I just saw a 1000 sq.ft. mobile home (not new) on 3/4 acre sell for $169,000 on street over from us.

If you don't care anything about how your food was produced, treated. and raised, if heavy pesticides and poisons, chemicals/manufactured "food" instead of real foods, degraded conditions and mysterious circumstances are fine...then yes, cheap food is certainly available...for the unaware and uninformed.

Swabbie Robbie's avatar

Are you serious? I have eaten organic primarily since 1975 when we moved rural. We raised chickens and had large gardens. I edited and published a bio-regional news letter and made the 1st logos and product labels for Organic Valley. Now we do raised bed gardens.

My statement is about what I observe at the local grocery store in my town, and at the local gas station. That grocery store is pretty careful about putting up sourcing info on their produce. But, all grocery stores have a wide variety of customers they need to serve. Some are going to buy fruit loops and skim milk, and yogurt that is really little more than a low or non fat desert with sugar. It also has a lot of organic products and a great selection of organic vitamins and nutraceuticals.

INGRID C DURDEN's avatar

gas down to 3,59 her in middle GA. Medium eggs 1.66. Ground meat 5.99 a pound. 50 pounds of potatoes for 13 bucks? Here 3.99 for 5 pounds. And they are not very good. House prices seem to be about the same, they skyrocketed about 2 years ago. then you could buy an acre with a second hand mobilhome for 75 000 or so.

As for healthy food - hard to find anything naturally grown, 'organic' costs double the price and is not un-sprayed, I know this first hand from a former farmer's market vendor. It is sprayed like the law allows. Only if you raise your own (and watch that no one flies over spraying from the air) you are sure. and then you have to have your soil checked, too.

Sulfur and Urea: Their role in the global economy and who is hurt most by the Persian Gulf cutoff...

Urea and sulfur are low-value bulk commodities that sit underneath two of the world’s most important production systems: food and metals. Urea is the world’s main nitrogen fertilizer. Sulfur, converted to sulfuric acid, is the indispensable input for phosphate fertilizer and for leaching copper, nickel and cobalt.

The Persian Gulf is the single largest export source of both, and the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz since 28 February 2026 has removed most of that supply from world markets.

https://sonar21.com/sulfur-and-urea-their-role-in-the-global-economy-and-who-is-hurt-most-by-the-persian-gulf-cutoff/

John Guy's avatar

Yes and no. In Humans yes.

Urea nitrogen is a normal waste product that your body creates when your liver breaks down protein from the foods you eat. It enters your bloodstream and travels to your kidneys, which filter it out of your blood so it can leave your body when you urinate.

***********************

Industrially, synthetic urea is manufactured through a multi-step chemical engineering process known as the Bosch-Meiser process. It relies on combining liquid ammonia (\(\text{NH}_{3}\)) and carbon dioxide (\(\text{CO}_{2}\)) under extreme temperature and pressure.

Step 1: Gathering the Raw Materials

Before urea can be synthesized, its two building blocks must be created:

1. Ammonia (\(\text{NH}_{3}\)): Natural gas (methane) is reacted with steam to produce hydrogen.

This hydrogen is then mixed with nitrogen extracted from the air. Utilizing the Haber-Bosch process, they are combined under immense heat and pressure to yield liquid ammonia. (Note: In some regions, like China, coal is used as the starting feedstock instead of natural gas).

2. Carbon Dioxide (\(\text{CO}_{2}\)): The carbon dioxide required is conveniently captured as a direct byproduct during the purification step of the ammonia-making process.

Step 2: High-Pressure Synthesis

The liquid ammonia and compressed \(\text{CO}_{2}\) gas are pumped into a high-pressure reactor autoclave. The synthesis occurs under harsh conditions—typically at temperatures around 180 and pressures between 130 to 200 atmospheres—and progresses in two distinct chemical stages....

INGRID C DURDEN's avatar

wow. it sounds like it would be expensive to make. And even though it is made with more or less natural compounds, I wonder how safe it is to make, and to use. Now I have to look that up!

John Guy's avatar

You are completely right.

Synthesizing urea requires an immense amount of energy and massive infrastructure, making it highly capital-intensive to set up. A full-scale synthesis plant can easily cost over $50 million to build.

However, because the industry operates on an enormous global scale, the actual per-ton manufacturing cost is remarkably low—often sitting around $200 to $450 per ton depending on the region.

Because the chemical process requires a massive amount of energy and hydrogen, natural gas accounts for 70% to 90% of the variable cost to manufacture nitrogen fertilizers.....

We're supposed to believe gas prices were higher under Biden.

Gaslighting at its best

Heidi Smith-Takatori's avatar

Gas here hovered for a long time at $5/gallon under Biden. We briefly pipped up to $5.10 (for about a week) and are already back under $5. I paid $4.86 when I filled up 3 days ago. So it's not gaslighting--it truly hasn't hit the sustained level we were paying under Biden. Additionally, although gas prices do raise the cost of anything that has to be shipped, we haven't seen the massive inflation of other commodities that we saw under Biden as he had so many other disastrous policies that hit agriculture and other areas of our economy. His completely unscientific war on chickens in the avian flu scenario is a good example--he killed healthy chickens by the millions instead of just doing proper quarantines and cleaning of premises, which drove a dozen eggs to $4.82 at its peak.

Why do all governments end up with people in power who exhibit depraved indifference? I’ve heard some atheist say you just have to be kind to people, you don’t have to believe in a God or be a Christian. Well where does the idea of being kind to people come from? Without God why bother? Be self centered and ruthless. Who was it that said “turn the other cheek?”, Mao Zedong? (40-70 million killed; Great Leap “Forward”; cultural revolution; political purges), sound familiar? It seems by removing God from our society we have ended up right where we’re at!

Think about people that rose into positions of power, like Anthony Fauci, (17-20 million killed and counting; deceiving people with medical poisonings for “profit”) the greatest mass murderer, ever, in the history of America. Certainly Fauci is on par with mass murderers like Mao Zedong (40-70 million killed), Hitler (11-17 million killed), Stalin (6-20 million killed) or Pol Pot (1.5-2.2 million killed). Knowingly deceiving, sickening or killing people, right here, in America. Incredible that our society has allowed this, as though we just absorb a legalized mass killing of millions. Is it more acceptable because of the way it was done to us? Or have too many simply accepted that the individual soul doesn’t really matter much anymore? And life goes on. It’s hard to come to the reality that we all have lived through these horrific times.

This cultural revolution here in America has been happening for years, and the people responsible are freely walking among us. No one in power seems able to hold anyone responsible. Similar to what we are told about AI, the system of government protects itself. It seems we don’t realize or see the history happening or being made all around us because it’s so close. Certainly many of us just don’t want to see. History will show fixing these problems are more up to people like us than many think. I wonder what the history books-or rather the AI inputs, will say when we are all gone?

next day was in the hospital. He died Sunday, funeral tmw.

Toni Headen's avatar

Agree. I’ve said that I don’t know how we have gotten to the point where the most narcissistic and machiavellian among us run and win public offices. And that they will not relinquish their seats in power even when they are back in an infantile position. Having to be fed, transported and changed leads you to believe that they (and their families) are getting far more out of this than we already know about.

We need officials who go back to their farms and shops after serving (with term limits)

Caps on fees for speaking engagements etc…. Being a public official should not be a “ka-ching” 💵 moment.

I know that this is all wishful thinking but the incentive should be the golden rule not the golden bank account. Sad

Prayers to all in the Florida panhandle and areas that will be affected by Isaias. Having been through Helene (my 1st and only tropical storm) 2 years ago, I feel for y’all. 🙏

To me, Christianity is what gives us humans an "eternal horizon." I've read there was a time when the "church" believed in reincarnation, but later decided Jesus doesn't promise an eternal return, but a new world and a new life" I think you are right it is up to us. I don't know how, but keep seeking the truth in situations. I am holding on to books. American writers old and new, fiction and nonfiction, American History, English literature, Greek Mythologies and other myths, Bibles. Not to be a downer but there are many who believe these are the end times of humanity and there actually is a Muslim sect that believes the end times for Christians and Jews is now and needs to happen before their "thing" can return so they are working to bring it about. Certainly not all Muslims believe this, but Mark Thiessen (sp) wrote an Opinion for the Washington Post that lays this out. I have to go find it on Truth Social, and I will come add it to this post this evening or tomorrow. Bottom line. We have nothing to fear but fear itself is a good motto, and there are a lot good young people who will write the stories you mention. I get hope from reading about the newish University of Austin, a private university, privately funded, no tuition for the the students who are accepted, all privately funded. They are seeking the best of the best no matter the economic situation of the student. Absolutely not woke. Bari Weiss helped found it. I've asked for their reading list. They have a substack. Gotta go. Thank you for your posts.

What you wrote about finances is so true and it reminds me of the book Rich Dad Poor Dad. When I was a little girl and I was watching all of the commercials about all of the credit cards and their motto was "play now pay later," even at that young age, I was thinking "that's not gonna end well," and here we are!! Don't get me wrong, I too got caught up in all of this but I'm finally realizing that that's not how to live life. These days, I thoroughly live within my means, have a savings account, investing with a reputable firm and enjoy life.

Taking this opportunity to encourage all the hate everything demonstrators to FEEL FREE TO LEAVE. Particularly get that done before the mid-terms.

Why would those that hate (corruption) be asked to leave?

You like corruption? Get your check?

I loved the blood pressure meme with the Doc making the patient wait for two hours. Ridiculous. I love retired military docs, they typically run on time and expect patients to be on time as well. I only go to a doctor when I have a health issue I cannot resolve on my own. Wellness visits are a waste of time unless you have something going on. Waiting around for a busy person who is overbooked is not going to help my mood.
