I am a Conservative

I am a Constitutional Conservative

At this point in time I Support the Republican Party because it is the only political franchise that (mostly) adheres to the ideals of This Constitutional Conservative.

Not too long ago, supporting the Republican Party was, indeed, the lesser of two evils; THEN

An interesting thing happened: a man stepped forward who loves America, appreciates what it Is, Was, and Could be

While reviled and faintly supported by the establishment Republicans, he also became a rally point for additional Constitutional Conservatives to step forward to reaffirm America.

The funny thing: I don’t think this man would count hisself as a Constitutional Conservative, just a man with common sense who recognizes the only way forward that preserves America is the way of the Constitutional Conservative

I support Donald John Trump and would vote for him a 4th, 5th time if it was constitutionally permissible (and DJT continued to MAGA)

I’m also an Evangelical Christian who sees the hand of God everywhere and in these difficult times I’d like folks to meditate over the last line in the American Declaration of Independence

He was a businessman...what my dear old departed step-dad said we needed in that office

SR Miller's avatar

Yes…and no.

I was a tepid Ross Perot supporter, initially, for a similar reason: successful businessman, practical, patriotic — but he was also kind’a out there (there was a reason Rush called him the little hand grenade). It didn’t take long to step away. It isn’t any one thing, it’s the assemblage of parts: the gestalt leader.

Damn, I miss Rush. Been thinking this past week or two: how I wish Rush were here to see the Trump reelection.

Jean's avatar

A couple of popular broadcasters were just discussing Rush on air, with similar sentiments. It would be heartening to have Rush with us in these challenging times.

Jean's avatar

They did take over Rush's quick comment thing. Expect they too would be remembering. But the ones mentioned were more like Hannity.

Aldo Zovich's avatar

I voted for Ross. Dana Carvey sure did a good parody of him on SNL when it was still funny.

SR Miller's avatar

I stopped watching SNL, even then it was sporadic, not too long after the early years but for some reason I do have a memory of that. I suspect there was still some unadulterated humor during the Carvey years and I caught a special or out take show every so often.

Diana Woodward's avatar

Me too, I was so excited to vote for a businessman, not a politician. A young Mother of 3, first time I ever voted!

I wish the same thing about my mom, SR!

I agree that Ross Perot did get weirded out in the end...

He's seeing it from where he is.

SR Miller's avatar

Ya’know, it’s nice thought, and to be sure I’ve prolly said something similar myself, BUT… of late and as those gates get closer, I find myself questioning that “wisdom.”

When I find myself slipping into that frame of mind I simply ask “Why?”

Sonia Nordenson's avatar

And I would respond, "Why not?" I've had clear signs of occasional presence from my mother, my father, and other beloved departed ones. Nobody dies.

Diana Woodward's avatar

The first lie told to the first humans. God said, "if you eat of it, you will surely die". The devil came along and said, "you will not surely die."

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

SR Miller's avatar

🤨

Just be careful, the father of lies is a master of deception and would like nothing more than to lead you astray through your emotions/feelings.

Jerry Williams's avatar

I agree, I even voted for Ross Perot back in the day, as being a businessman myself, I've always viewed the US Government as one of the world's largest companies.

If you run a company based on it being solvent, then you are managing it well, unlike what we all see in our government, spend without guardrails...

And I'll be right there with you in line!

Supporting neither Party is Constitutional.

The Founders warned us about them

SR Miller's avatar

It’s not unconstitutional but it is unwise, if not just plain foolish

Jack Bergeron's avatar

For a moment I thought you writing about Tom Massie. Waging war without a declaration from Congress demonstrates to me Trump is not a Constitutional Conservative. Some say it’s okay because other previous presidents did it. When someone does something wrong and gets away with it, it doesn’t now become okay for someone else to do. Others say Congress passed the Wars Powers Act and Trump is acting within the authority of that Act. The Constitution gives the authority to declare war solely to Congress. Granting that authority to any other entity requires a Constitutional amendment. By Article VI, section 2 of the Constitution the War Powers Act is notwithstanding, in other words unconstitutional.

Signing ominbus budget bills is another example that demonstrates to me Trump is not a Constitutional conservative. Borrowing money to then give it away to foreign countries is outright foolish. Tom Massie had the audacity to put America first. Trump with the aid of foreign donors supported Massie’s opponent. Trump is not MAGA.

SR Miller's avatar

1) the war powers act is unconstitutional

2) DECLARE war is not the same as MAKE war - we have a president (chief executive officer), commander in chief (of the military) so that actions to protect and/or defend America can brought to bear ASAP, not waiting for a gaggle public opinion pimps to decide which way the wind is blowing.

3) congress has the power of the purse and has the impeachment power to reign in presidential action(s) or evil presidents.

I suggest you get your head out of Massie’s nether regions and get real. He was rightfully rejected by his district.

Jack Bergeron's avatar

The preamble to the Constitution states the purposes of the Constitution. One of those is to provide for the common DEFENSE. Trump ordered our military to initiate and carry out offensive actions, that is waging war. He did it without a declaration of war from Congress.

If Trump’s argument for attacking Iran is as strong as he alleges, he should have delivered that message and evidence to the people and Congress, otherwise he is acting outside our Constitution.

Massie was massively outspent by his opponent. His opponent’s campaign benefited greatly from contributions from foreign entities. That too should be ended.

Bob Black's avatar

You’re saying the current tribe of lunatic Dems in Congress would not have been warning the mullahs if they had more than a minutes notice of impending action?

Dogs have masters, cats have staff.

Aniela Connelly's avatar

We have 37 cats in the colony we care for, and there are only two of us. They need to advertise for more staff.

Dianne Stoess's avatar

Wow! Maybe some of them can be homed!?

Aniela Connelly's avatar

Not too easily. In the beginning, there were many kittens, many of which we rehomed and many of which died. The cats moved wholesale and overnight to our place from a neighboring barn--literally, we woke up and opened the door one morning in June to find a heap of cats on the front door mat, mama cats and kittens of all sizes. We began the monumental task of spaying and neutering. We couldn't touch or easily catch many of them and there are several we still cannot. Finally discovered drop trapping, and that helped. We now have our entire acre fenced with a cat fence, so they are protected from other creatures wandering in. And now they're not young cats, so in addition to not really being able to handle many of them, they are older, and most people want tame cats, especially kittens. So we're kind of stuck with them. This is their home, and they're happy, and we feed them well--and they won't last forever. So we want to give them a good life as best we can.

Gene's avatar

Feral cats are impossible to domesticate unless you get them as very young kittens so their claws and teeth don't hurt too much as you hold them and show them you're not going to hurt them. After a couple of times holding them, they will start too recognize you as a friend, especially if you give it a little treat. We fed a small colony of feral cats at my parents house for a while, until my parents passed and I moved away. We did manage to make a couple of pets from kittens we were able to get friendly with, but grown feral cats will never trust people. Personally, I'm more of a dog person.

Dianne Stoess's avatar

Bless you. You are angels.

Tim Jensen's avatar

I get it. I have 34 cats but I only have to deal with 1/4 of them. Fortunately half of them are occupied chasing pussy and half of the rest are twerking - unfortunately - cats are real good at math and can all multiply to the 5th power.

Aniela Connelly's avatar

Oh my. Well, we've taken care of some of those problems. See my reply above.

Tim Jensen's avatar

Thanks Aniela, actually most of them here are neutered/spayed and are tame pets. I spend a fair amount of time and resources on them and enjoy them a great deal. I have a couple of more feral females that are not catchable and trap smart so they get fed and watered from one of a few different feed stations, I leave a couple of Females intact for replacements. Coyotes, Eagles, Great Horned owls, and an occasional cougar that I never see but for the tracks take a few each year. The Browning does a good job on the coyotes but is not legal on the others - nor would I want to go that route anyway. The Pyrenes/Akbash guard dogs have to do the rest. The cats are free hunters on the ranch and do pretty good keeping out of trouble but there is always some heartbreak at times. My first post was mostly intended as humor; but the base number is accurate. Be well.

Aniela Connelly's avatar

I'm glad you have the dogs. Yes, I know about the heartbreak. We feel strongly about making sure the cats get to be outdoors, but for the past 25 years or so, we couldn't take the anxiety of not being able to find them and wondering what happened to them, hence the cat fence at this home and our previous two places. We also used to have a sane number of cats (like anywhere between 2 and 4), not the crew we have now! Like you, we do enjoy them, but they're a lot of trouble, too, and expensive! I guess we all do what we have to--and we couldn't turn them away. They were in very poor health and were malnourished as well.

Cougars...wow. That would be hard to defend against. We have chickens and ducks and a couple geese as well. I think an owl might have gotten one of my ducks a couple of weeks ago.

Weird stuff to say the least. The White House website features a world chart that

demonstrates that Healthcare in US is out of control. It should be the top cartoon Friday and Sunday until it sinks in RFK Jr got it right. 1500 Beagles were rescued from a farm in Wisconsin that provides beagles for Fauci research. Never made the mass media. The beagles were never nurtured and do not know how to behave. Sad stuff.

Jean's avatar

I petsat with a couple adopted beagles that escaped from the experiments with their lives. They had loving personalities but could not be housebroken. Had to be confined but for walks. Better than more torture or death, but still sad

Great bunch of funnies today!

I’m reading How to Test Negative for Stupid and why Washington never will. I hadn’t gotten too far into Senator Kennedy’s book when I found myself “memorizing” a couple of lines that I’ll share here due to it being Friday Funnies.

Speaking of how hard the work at Oxford was, Kennedy wrote, he had to work harder than an ugly stripper.

One more that I’ll always remember, Both Cruz and Rubio could talk a dog off a meat wagon.

Hahaha! Have a great day everyone!

Hey Dr Malone. When we get an abundance of eggs, my wife puts them in a quart mason jar and fills it with some sort of salt solution. We can then have eggs all winter when the girls are not laying.

We just got hit by raccoons last night and we lost my one guinea hen and my one remaining Plymouth Rock. What pisses me off is that he coons only kill them but do not eat them. I

'll be setting traps!

They also tried to kill my 15 year old cat.

Vengeance will be mine!

Dr. Robert W. Malone's avatar

Yep - we do that too - pickling lime.

We already have a lot in jars - I don't have any jars left.

I need to scramble up a ton for the dogs - just takes time to do it.

LoverOfHills's avatar

Get em, Charles. Will never forget a stare-down I had with a menacing raccoon. He poked holes, lived, in our roof, for too many years. We tried everything. One night, I got him. I used a flashlight to catch his eyes, while he was on the roof, 15' from me. I stood there, both of us motionless, for hours. Did I mention it was cold, and spittin rain. Finally hubby returned home, sees me, gets out his gun. Dead raccoon.

Sonia Nordenson's avatar

They ARE very menacing, and bold. Cute, but when they fight among themselves they sound demonic.

ddc's avatar

I dunno. I've always had good relations with the racoons that hang out around our home. I give them food, too. I would say that we respect one another. Also, interesting about (possibly) going after the cat. I have read that they form symbiotic relationships with cats. In fact, a racoon and a stray cat (who later decided to live inside with us) lived together very harmoniously under my studio.

Frank Whiten's avatar

That’s the absolute truth, Sonia. Demonic is how I also described that sound to my friends. It was unbelievable.

Sonia Nordenson's avatar

Well, that’s good to hear. But have you ever heard them fight? Also, when I lived by a river, one evening we scattered a small pack of them that were holding one raccoon under the water, trying to drown him. They probably got him later, anyway, but we couldn’t stand to see it happen.

Tim Jensen's avatar

Live traps baited with cat kibble. If the pet water is dirty - coon. If the water is clean except for small pieces of kibble - probably skunk. Put your trap in a 55 gallon barrel on it's side with one end of the barrel cut out. If you get a skunk - approach the barrel from the back and set it up. Fill the barrel with water and go have coffee. Then you can finish up at your leisure without the perfume.

As someone who loves early American history, I recently bought a book about the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Inside the book was a separate card with more general information. As we approach the Semiquincentennial of our country, I thought I would share the following, as it appears on that card:

Nine signers died of wounds or hardships during the Revolutionary War. Five were captured or imprisoned, in some cases with brutal treatment. The wives, sons, & daughters of others were killed, jailed, mistreated, persecuted, or left penniless. One was driven from his wife's deathbed & lost all his children. The houses of twelve signers were burned to the ground. Seventeen lost everything they owned. Every signer was proscribed as a traitor; everyone was hunted. Most were driven into flight; most were at one time or another barred from their families or homes. Most were offered immunity, freedom, rewards, their property, or the lives & release of loved ones to break their pledged word or to take the King's protection. Their fortunes were forfeited, but their honor was not. No signer defected or changed his stand throughout the darkest hours. Their honor, like the nation, remained intact.

I will be thinking of this on July 4th.

LB (Little Birdie)'s avatar

I've sent on to significant others. Thank you for posting!

Debra Nolasco's avatar

You're welcome. The average American has no idea of the sacrifices that were made by these (56) men to secure their freedom. I wish more cared to know. Thanks for sharing with others.

It's time to replace Thune, we need someone to do what we the people want, Thune is as bad as McConnell. They are all standing in the way of DJT making America Great again!

Gail Benton's avatar

Are you talking about making America great again by sending troops into America, asking for papers (or get twisted into a pretzel or worse), saying that epst- files are a hoax (after saying they're going to be released), expanding surveillance and experimental injections on day 2 back in office, highest inflation in 3 years, bombing 7 countries in one year, and the biggest broken promise of no wars...start a war with Iran for a foreign country?

Paula Mitchell's avatar

Please, this is so much better than the Biden administration you sound like a bitter Democrat in denial over how bad the Democrats were and how they've set our country back decades. The insane left is in control of the Democrat party if the Democrats were smart and wanted to take control back they could help Trump and he'd take care of their problems. I don't believe in six genders, I believe in law and order and I don't want Iran to have a nuclear bomb because after 47 years of death to America I believe they mean it. By the way we had 9% inflation with Biden it's closer to 3 now. Trump is 100 times better than Biden the majority voted for Trump and what he offered I expect it'll take awhile to get our country back on track because the insane leftist Democrats almost ended our country. I will be patient because so far what I see is a big improvement.

Gail Benton's avatar

Paula, Of course Biden has set the country back. It doesn't matter who gets in, the agenda continues.

Why hasn't anyone in the Biden administration, or anyone else involved with the invasion been indicted by the Trump administration??

They all work for the same puppet masters.

Then, there's the highest inflation rate in 3 years at the moment.

ddc's avatar

Gail, I think we are in the minority here on this substack regarding pointing out the glaring inconsistencies and policy reversals in the present Trump administration. I don't buy the 5D chess. I don't personally know a single person who supported and voted for Trump who doesn't now have serious doubts about him. And I did vote for him with high hopes. We don't have to neglect the positives to point out the negatives. I suspect the government of Israel and/or the pedophile psychopaths who rule over us have some severe blackmail on Trump, or are perhaps threatening him or his family. See JFK, RFK, Charlie Kirk, etc.

Gail Benton's avatar

Sad that we're only a minority.

The Founders were wise to protect minorities.

The smallest minority is the individual.

Mass formation is effective with the best social engineers that money can buy.

"Restoring lawful government through lawful judgement."

It took a long time to get where we are because people became complacent, and it'll take a long time to correct the corruption with learning how to get back to Law that predates government.

Lessons taught nowhere else

Gail Benton's avatar

Perhaps, the People don't want it because there are already laws that aren't being enforced.

Makes me wonder if this one would be.

It looks like it's more federal government expansion hidden in the act.

States are higher up on the hierarchy.

Creator that created

The People that created

The States that created

The Constitution that gave authorization to

the federal government its very limited functions...

protect individual liberty.

Anything outside of that authorization is usurpation.

It's time to restore Lawful government through Lawful judgement.

Law came before government.

If you believe it comes after government, we're in a whirl of troubles.

The government is already coming up with so many laws that it's become tyrannical.

The longer we wait to learn, the longer it will take to restore.

No politician is coming to save us. Only we can save ourselves.
