Living in a cabin in the woods is wholesome. Talking to the dog, cats, birds, squirrels is liberating. Watching the stars, the moon, the rising of the sun, the crocuses, spring coming into the land! I leave all the traveling to everyone else. I have vacation till the end of life!
Sitting here with Hubs and second cuppa, watching the winter seagulls questing for breakfast on the lake. A couple of mama deer outback watching youngsters chase each other like children do. As far away from chaos as possible.
I have so many videos of this herd that feels so safe here they come night and day. The fawns act exactly like toddlers - taunting each other then running and hopping. 😂

I remember when we first moved onto our 20 acres, back in 1992, the first twin Bambi’s were born on the property; over the years there have been more mule deer born on the property, & when “we” get to see the babies as they play, it’s wonderful! There are lakes near where I live now but it is not the same as being able to just walk out of the house and go watch what is happening on the river.
We had that also, & now our corner of paradise is also being invaded by Unwanted developers!!! Now, some (or probably most) counties in Colorado are losing our voices to “speak out at county commissioners” meetings, & the corrupt State has allowed so much growth, our natural resources are dwindling faster than the USGS even realized! Time to plan a move from corrupt Colorado!
Yes, there are new Public Community Notices going up every week now in NW Elbert county- it’s sickening. Our property is sandwiched between Douglas county/Elbert county. DOUGCO has been destroyed with high density subs; now, our NW corridor butts up to DOUGCO, & the generation of folks here are upset that the Elbert BOCC doesn’t give a rat’s bottom about water resources being used at an alarming rate , & traffic is a nightmare as well. So, my daughter & her husband are searching rural Kentucky for a possible get-away, but it all depends on her husband’s job, & growth for the company he works for now!
Sorry to report, Kentucky, also, is mostly all un-informed folks. Rural may be ok. Lexington, forget it. One state to the south, is (I think) a better bet, Tennessee.
I moved to TN 12 years ago from CO. Lived there 50 years and watched it go from sensible conservative to CA Liberal. Now we’re having to fight in TN to keep our Common Sense conservative values, but the rural areas are being consumed by those Blue State folks moving here. Unfortunately, Im at an age Where I need to stay put. How sad how our beloved country has changed!!
I realize that, as my Daughter’s Father-in-Law lives in Clarksville, TN, & that is a growing town also. I am not in agreement to moving-I’m too old to go through another move. But, my Son-in-Law has family in Paducah, & I believe my kids may have to go without me.
Water resources were estimated to last another 25 years when I moved from Elbert County in 1999. They were an issue even while I was there. We were on water rationing while Denver businesses were hosing off the sidewalks so they wouldn't have to sweep. I can't imagine the insanity of approving housing developments when water is so scarce! Don't the residents every vote in people with brains?
Oh man - here on the lake, which is our weekend gettaway place, we don't have to worry about encroachment by developers because the Army Corp of Engineers are like Nazi's when it comes to regulating the natural shoreline. However, where we call home, a 14 acre property we developed in 2007, is now being surrounded by huge concrete warehouses built on ancient pristine meadows. The deer and other wildlife displaced. Including some very unwanted coyotes. 😡
Ouch! The fate of so many wonderful rural places. I guess now it will be AI computing centers taking up the pristine wild land and farm lands along with Amazon fulfillment warehouses.

What it didn't show was the artist's sketch of all the new houses that would be built there once the subdivision was finished. I've often wondered how many people got taken in by that exception piece of marketing sleight of hand.

I feel sorry for the Mexicans….so confused about America “stealing their land.” Obviously they were never taught in school how the Spanish Conquistadores came over in hordes from Spain to raid the Aztecs in South America and the Mayans in Central America for all their gold, and in the process slaughtered the people into near extinction. Spain took all their gold and land and, those that did not die of the diseases the Spanish brought with them, intermarried and were absorbed into Spanish society. Thus the land in Central America became “MEXICO.”

As soon as the sun rises, I’m awake, well, kind of anyway! I love the coffee memes, & the faster I get up to do stretches, open the curtains, take care of the routine in the “ladies room”, & dash off to my kitchen for COFFEE! I always talk to the birds that sit on the utility wires when I see them; sometimes take my coffee with me outside & sit in the sunshine with my two huge cats, & talk to them! So, being in the woods talking to the animals, & having a great cup ‘O-Joe, is not too far off from my AM routine! Time for another cup! I’m tired of news, liars, procrastinators, & Tik-Tok!(which I do not have!)! Happy travels back home to your beautiful homestead!!!
