Yup! I’m in the “74 Club”now, & keep telling God I’m not ready to leave yet because I’m still working on house projects, plants, animal care, & the most important: spend as much time as I want, with my beautiful grand daughters & my adult children!

It’s unbelievable how uncommon common sense can be. It seems for some, finding it, is just unobtainable.

We’ve been watching Israel systematically, efficiently and extremely effectively dismantle Iran’s ability to not only not be able to build a nuclear bomb, but also lose their ability to bully and terrorize their neighbors. Have we learned nothing from Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya or Syria? Even when we spend trillions of dollars trying to “spread democracy” we have a consistent failing record in achieving such a goal. It’s like saying “I know socialism has failed every time it’s tried, but this time we’re going to create Utopia”. Before you know it tens of thousands or millions are starving to death.

Just a thought, maybe we should focus on the homeless vets we have now, not create more.

It’s refreshing to see a commander and chief methodically take the time, ask questions and acknowledge the negatives before getting us involved in another forever war. At this point what’s the rush? Let Israel do it, after all they are nearly neighbors.

I’ll be the first one to criticize whoever for making unwise out of control decisions without first understanding the consequences, like leaving our border wide open, but in this case patience I believe is a good thing.

It’s a good feeling knowing the people in charge are being thoughtful and putting America and Americans first, it seems like basic common sense.

A few sayings come to mind, “Peace through strength” and “speak softly and carry a big stick”. Both I believe at this time are great deterrents. J.Goodrich

James, as in the Iraq war, when Rumsfeld said, "They will welcome us as liberators." He forgot to tell Muqtada Al Sadr. The real mistake was not recognizing that Islam is a onesie, there is no separation of mosque and state, and "freedom" is a foreign concept. No, you do what the Imam tells you to do. Our form of government is only possible in a Judeo-Christian context, when individuals control their own passions voluntarily. When they don’t, government must take over to ensure order, and freedom suffers as a result. Or when behavior is ignored, as in the UK rape gang outrage, young girls pay the price, under the pretense that everything is hunky-dory.

These are very good thoughts. Thank you.

My perspective: While Christians don't have the market on goodness, we do, however, keep trying to know and follow God's Will, rather than our own. We strive to confess, repent, and make amends for our sins against God and others, and we try to forgive others who tresspass against us. Then we get up off the ground, and don't give up *trying to live our lives in accordance with God's Will for us. Yes, we stumble plenty, for we are all sinners, but we will not give up trying to know and do God's Will. That, in my opinion, is the difference between many Christians and many non-Christians.

(Then again, I live in Washington state - ha, ha couldn't resist that - not very Christian of me, was it? ;-))

No, if you live in Washington state, you get extra grace.... Reminds me of my lumberyard friend who said, "I liked Austin before it was weird."

I worked on the rail gang on the Burlington Northern line in the late '60s around Spokane, Northern Idaho and eastern Montana. Got into a discussion (friendly argument) with a Christian chap in Coeur d'Alene one time. He was a believer and I wasn't. Often wonder what ever happened to him - credit him for being a part of my conversion some years later.

Thank you, all offers of extra grace here meekly and gratefully accepted. Living in this state is just such an exasperating and exhausting experience. Would leave if I could, but unfortunately not in the universe of possibilities at the moment.

Were you protected with the "Job For Life Contract" prior to the merger?

How many folks know you had a promise of a job for life on the RR?

They could never fire you if hired on before March 1970.

Great Northern/CB&Q/ Northern Pacific became BNRR. (Santa Fe in 96)

Change was harsh and swift for the RR working man.

Think I've got the date wrong because it was after the merger. Must have been spring '70. Our crew of 40 or so was mostly kids, only three of the guys could drive a spike with a mall - it's all in the wrist if you know what you're doing, and two (or even three) guys working in tandem is a sight to see. By then, everything was mechanized. Rails a quarter mile long. Automatic spiking machines. Hard to imagine the transcontinental days when everything was done by hand. Was it 20' rails then?

James Goodrich: You are so right about 'uncommon common sense.' People jump to erroneous conclusions, because they believe everything they read and hear. My father told me... not to believe anything I read or heard...and to watch and wait until it is verified. People should have learned by now about propaganda...and the truth is hard to come by.

Some of the cartoons reflect the extremism that we are experiencing in the USA. Mostly in the media that is only focused on helping create division created by a few. On Wednesday, I experienced the love and well being of America that is alive and well and is ignored by the media. My heartfelt thank you is extended to the many hundreds of Americans of all ages, all faiths all backgrounds that honored our Vietnam veterans and myself who was pre Vietnam on a Honor Flight from Chicago to DC. There were 111 Veterans on the flight supported by a loving staff that cared. Honor Flight has sent over 10,000 Vets to DC. Thank you Honor Flight! God Bless America!

"What feminists fought for; what they gave up."

One of my earliest memories of the Men Are Pigs mindset was Billie Jean King's victory over Bobby Riggs in 1973. I remember the ensuing glee, seen up close. Now it seems more men are "becoming" women, entering competitive sports, and robbing young women of their rightful victories, scholarships, prize money. Progress. What a strange sequence of events.

"This sad little lizard told me that he was a Brontosaurus on his mother's side."

My layman's understanding of the current conventional wisdom is that dinosaurs were more similar to birds than lizards. Thus lizards have been robbed of some of their ancestral glory.

After the recent appearances of pests (hornworms, squash vine borers) in the backyard vegetable garden, I called a huddle of the growing population of lizards that accompany me on my checks. I reminded them that they have pest control responsibilities, and that they need to "straighten up and fly right."

Silence. Then one lizard, a new friend of Ick's, visibly affected, shot off to refuge underneath the supply cabinet. Remembering that lizards don't fly, I realized I had touched on a sore spot.

I know how annoying it can be to have too many people suggest ideas for health, but here I go. I have a Teeter inversion table. This machine is a wonder, it allows you to create traction for the vertebrae as well as gently rock for cerebral-spinal fluid flow. Not too expensive, foldable, (altho we leave ours out). What a superb lot today!

Love all the cats. IMO it takes a guy like the one in the family pic, to make giving up worth the gamble. Even in my day, that sort was very hard to come by. The situation seems to be getting worse as the years roll by. Just maybe the Trump years may turn it around.

I can appreciate your stint with Jade. Tried to get my mare covered by Chuck Wagon W, but it seemed one of his lovely maidens whacked him in his package and he was in recovery. Upshot - no foals for us. Take care out there.

It does look like a tough week ahead in our little part of the world. At least you'll have 3 days of solid AC to look forward to. Hopefully looking to watch in. Glad we seem to have a tenp respite today. At least hi temps won't further aggravate with the repairing.

Thanks again for the 'so trues' for our day! We thank heavens for you folks and your communications of consequence!
