Honestly if government would just leave me alone, just do what they were supposed to do, I would be far better off than I am.

Just to pull a permit on my own house I need “licenses, permits, certificates, registrations, approvals, plans, insurances, safety certificates, safety inspections, site visits, and pay all the fees, could I now please just fix my stairs”? So wouldn’t you say this is hindering my business.

Liability insurance has gotten so expensive I’ve given up my plowing contracts because I would lose money, the insurance company would take it all and much more.

I would say as this communist democrat party has grown their main intention is to crush the little guy, crush the little banks, make people have no alternative but to beg government for some bread and peanut butter. Am I wrong?

Reagan was so well spoken and the complete opposite of these communists trying to do whatever it takes to take back power. Just as in 1861 they refused to accept Lincoln as president, they are today refusing to accept Trump as President and the will of the people. They are a blight on American society and the rule of law.

Leftist's answer to a president they don't like is always a bullet. Lincoln, Reagan, Trump.

The left has only one philosophy since 2015: Orange Man Bad. They can explain everything by this.

As you know, I dislike calling progressives liberals because, well, they aren't. However leftist seem very appropriate because by progressing away from it they have utterly left our Constitution behind.

Loved Ronald Reagan. His second election was probably the last honest one, he won 49 states. No digital machines to count the votes. But his biggest mistake was having George HW Bush as his VP. That rat rode Reagan's coattails and pretended to be a conservative. He was never a conservative. He was CIA (headquarters is still named after him in McClean) and he was a founding father of the new world order. Then came Clinton, he dismantled the Justice Department completely, then came Dubya, worse than his father, and then came Obama, the Muslim, worse than all combined and then came illegitimate Biden, the wrecking ball and now here we are, because of them all. Eternal Memory to Ronald Reagan. But then the dirty rats came. Ronald Reagan is at peace. He's in a better place. A place of rest. We on the other hand had to live through a biological weapons attack, didn't we? Something "the boys" had been working on. They needed to get rid of President Trump to get their control back. And we also lived through a stolen election, didn't we. I hope one day I can meet Ronald Reagan and shake his hand in that better place because with what's going on now, it definitely isn't here. The demons want their power back. Life is still good. Life is still worth living. But there a lot of bad people with a lot of power and money and it is disappointing but the world was never a perfect place, was it?

Well said, Cleft of the Rock. I especially like how you conclude. God works through it all.

There is little impetus for widespread volunteerism unless there is patriotism. There has to be a feeling that "we're all in this together' as part of a national consensus before many people will strongly feel the need to contribute. JFK's inaugural speech captured this sentiment when he encouraged citizens not to ask what their country could do for them but rather what they could do for their country.

LoverOfHills's avatar

BUT it's an even better feeling (using your measure), if, you Do a good / "Volunteer", when no one is looking. The trouble is, we've let our culture mold us into thinking it's wrong somehow to not accept a spotlight, a medal, an award, or share our doings with photos or talk. Modernity, and biggly Tech, has enhanced, sped up, the Evil's tools of influence on us, tempting us in so many ways 24/7. It's almost impossible for the innate goodness in folks to rise to the occasion. The innate/Godly reward for Doing Good, is lessened. We have to fight against this reality of our times. I think it's why now are record sales of Bibles! We're looking for reminders of God's "tools" to fight against the Evil's tools.

Julia Pomeroy's avatar

But then Reagan was talking to people who had been brought up with at least Christian moral values if not the actual reality of Christianity itself. These days morality is personal not collective, which is ironic considering Marxism is all into collectiveness.

What a great article thank you Robert. Very encouraging and motivating. I love Ronald Reagan. I was a young boy when he was president. I remember the excitement my father had when Carter was voted out. I had no idea about these things. Politics and fascism. I do know grateful that we didn’t lose our country in 2024. I hope the peoples hearts and minds can be changed. If not, it’s going to be a sad day in the world. Keep farming! All the best.

INGRID C DURDEN's avatar

he recognized the good in people and their willingness to help each other. unfortunately he did not recognize the greed in bigpharma and signed them free of responsibility spreading dangerous jabs.

Joy Metcalf's avatar

The original 1986 Act gave the injured the choice of whether to sue the manufacturer or take the suit to the U.S. Government. It was only after a Supreme Court decision stating that vaccines were "unavoidably unsafe" that everything changed and Pharma was off the hook. Ironically, those words were quoted from the original bill. For a great rendition of the entire process, watch https://thehighwire.com/ark-videos/1986-the-untold-story/ Barbara Loe Fisher, who helped to form the bill, tells how its initial intent was slowly but surely watered down and then turned on its head.

Reagan, btw, was not happy about the NCVIA, for various reasons, but signed it anyway.

INGRID C DURDEN's avatar

it is very unfortunate that he signed, probably against his own gut feeling. I did not know Fisher was involved, and imagine how she feels now that the whole thing has been bent into a way she certainly did not intend. But as usual, when the govt is involved, things run out of hand, like so often. Good intentions, and then greed and money turn them into disaster.

Julia Pomeroy's avatar

I would not be at all surprised if, in this area, he was completely naive, I can remember as a child in the 1940s you had to have clean sheets and clean towels and a pristine bathroom if the doctor came to visit, he (hardly ever 'she' in those days) was treated like a god. So I can see that RR would have been completely taken in, after all he was not a business man not even a politician really, just an actor with winning ways.

D D's avatar

This was signed in 1986, not 1950!

INGRID C DURDEN's avatar

yes that date is right. But indeed, people of his age, and even my parent's age, and even now still, many people consider the word of the doctor sacrosanct. My dad knows his doc is not always right, but still treats him like at least a half-god. And we can also not forget that Reagan probably had already started dementing at the time. I know from experience how hard it is to recognize dementia when it starts (mom had it for 7+ years)

D D's avatar

Yes Ingrid, why this isn't mentioned (NCVIA) as well as his other stances as President makes this review incomplete.

Ronald Reagan should be on Rushmore. As far as I’m concerned he was the greatest president America has ever had. His ideas and how to run policy was running America until Obama. People fail to recall he was a California democrat and he always said he didn’t leave the Democratic Party it left him. California politics showed him what not to do when it came to running the country. He reset America’s reputation on the world stage making her the leader again and when he spoke world leaders listened. I grew up during Reagan’s administration. I remember Carter and gas lines only being able to purchase gas with even it odd numbers on you license plate. When Iran took our hostages it was the lowest point for America. Some little piss ant country holding Americans and we did nothing. Reagan got elected and they came home right quick because Iran knew he wasn’t the one to screw around with. The Gipper was one that I hope Trump wins one more for.

Reagan saw through so much and was a gifted thinker and horseman. I recommend reading Riding With Reagan by John Barletta . A whole other dimension of the Gipper!

He started out as a Democrat, and was president of the Screen Actors Guild. He must have observed the communist infiltration into Hollywood, which I gather was real.

I miss Phil Hartman, whom I still consider one of the great comedic actors of all time. He could be hilariously funny without being mean-spirited (he also hilariously impersonated Clinton in the spirit of bipartisanship). His impressions of Reagan might be interpreted as a parody of how Reagan's political opponents portrayed him. I still laugh at this old SNL sketch.

Thank you, Dr. Malone for the Great quotes. My favorite to remember is “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.”

“Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”

Berlin Wall speech, 1987

I remember that very clearly! Indeed we were once “the city on the hill” but we left God out of our lives and our country. He is all I need because one day I shall see Jesus “Face to Face!” When we have Him, He directs our every day walk!

Thank you for quoting Mr. Raegan!

All true, but the no-fault divorce he instated was one of the worst things for our society. Nobody has it all together but Christ.

Anne Clifton's avatar

Yes, thank you for mentioning this. I've been thinking about that recently, as I've been reading a book about the effects of divorce on children. This particular book doesn't claim to be a scientific analysis, just a compilation of people sharing their experiences. It brought up lots of bad memories from when my parents divorced in 1970. (Obviously this was before no fault divorce, so my father lived for six weeks in Nevada in order to get a quick divorce. I still have an irrational grudge against Nevada.) I am doing well, but my brother is not. My son was a victim of no-fault divorce when his wife left him for another man. Their children were 4 years old and 8 months old, so the younger child has no memory of his parents being together. I hate divorce. I'm sorry Ronald Reagan made it easier for people to abandon their marriage.

Joy Metcalf's avatar

Ronald Reagon made it easier for Californians. Other states need to take responsibility for their own actions. We don't have to follow bad examples. This is on us.

Joy Metcalf's avatar

While Ronald Reagan signed the No Fault Divorce law in California while he was governor, Jerry Brown had also advocated for it. After that, other states quickly followed suit. The reasons for no-fault divorce were, I think, sound: people didn't have to air their dirty laundry in public, with the resulting anger and hostility, which was just as devastating to the children as no-fault divorce. Unfortunately, it fell prey to that nastiest of outcomes--the Law of Unintended Consequences.

Anne Clifton's avatar

You make a good point, but perhaps the prospect of airing their dirty laundry caused some couples to work harder to stay married. Both of my parents remarried. My father's second wife (whom he left my mother to marry) left him later. My mother married an alcoholic who had already been married several times. One day I went to visit her and he came out and tried to get me to kiss him. I'm really onboard with Katy Faust's organization, Them Before Us, which addresses many issues that negatively affect children, such as same sex marriage, IVF, and surrogacy. https://thembeforeus.com/ Adults need to sacrifice for the children they bring into the world. Of course, I acknowledge that there are dangerous situations which warrant divorce, but far too many divorces are simply adults looking for "happiness" and refusing to keep the promises they made.

LoverOfHills's avatar

Thank you Anne. I will check out the org you mention. As a divorcee, I've have for a long time, these same conclusions. I always guide those that think I'll be on-board with their marrital complaints, to stay married. Men in my day, were Archie Bunker influenced, women were Feminist influenced. Luckily, I never strayed from my Catholic upbringing, altho, some of that Feminism (the right to "be happy", and that post D, maybe there is a proper mate out there - there wasn't - and even if I met him, I soon put a halt on - as I felt married still.) But that influence crept into my brain in the worst years. I regret it every day. I recently aplogized to my X. We had a nice long chat, he apologized again immediately too. He had done so several times over the years, but me, never. I should've stuck it out. He's remarried now, and hasn't changed much, but still, we, I, should've done better. (I will be deleting this comment pdq, but wanted to say thanks, as there are many of us who understand more now, that the breaking of the marital vow, even if seemed justified, contributes or causes a un-ending! cascade of problems for many others.)

Movies like "How the West was Won" albeit Hollywood Cowboy-ish, was exciting as it gets.

Reagan had a patriotic heart and soul. The presidents after him up until Trump were all weak men who were totally corrupted by the globalists, Ozero being the worst. And we have been under “Corporate Fascism” for awhile, where mega corporations including mega banks all control the western governments. Up until Trump, that is, which is why the big corporations, the corrupt Democrats and the corrupt RINO Uniparty Republicans all hate him.

The under appreciated issue of volunteerism vs government intervention is that the left has a particular mentality in being unable to deal with the messy parts of life, i.e., the problems. Their penchat is to throw money at it and keep it at arms length paying others to deal with it. Volunteerism requires personal involvement, hands on, by people who have a moral center to guide them without overreach. Those from the left are sociopathic and have no such center. Right and wrong for another requires a finesse that eludes them. They panic with it. The lack of personal control over other's issues. They cannot and do not want to deal with it directly. The left is completely unable to take personal responsibility. Their habit is to blame others. Namely those on the right who do have a moral center and are the volunteers of the world and claim they are not doing enough. This is a political attack the left uses to elevate itself without getting personally involved and to gain control over others. It is a sickness without cure. This is sociopathy. It is a human aberration we have misunderstood for millennia and failed to comprehend how destructive this personality can be when it gains authority. Many problems of society can be avoided by not giving authority to sociopaths who survive by feeding off society's good graces and calling the rest of us racist.
