Dr. Malone, this piece names something I've been working on directly. Journalists no longer seeing their worldview as a worldview, that's not just a media problem, it's a formation problem showing up at the institutional level. One of the axes in the citizen capacity framework I'm building measures exactly this, evidence versus emotional narrative, whether a person or institution can still tell the difference between what happened and what they want you to feel about it. Your piece is a clean case study of that axis losing its footing at scale.

Sorry but no way in hell did that slobbering bat cave inhabitant get 80 million votes. There were repeated reports of Trump votes disappearing for corn sakes. That was the dirtiest election ever

Unfortunately and as we know what occasions the U.S is dutifully replicated the World over, media changed and followed suit in many Western jurisdictions the same changes made, the impact no different, almost as if a web had been spun and media the world over were caught up in the same, here in New Zealand our media became part of conglomerates no one had heard of, the content and style changed, our once truly free press replaced with a media that has become agencies for their larger international overlords.. no longer challenging government, presenting balanced arguments, you’ll recall the same, you’d watch a news item, well researched, that presented both sides with the same diligence to accuracy, the reporting neutral, the job of the journalists and editors to present the facts in a balanced fair process and allow the viewer as Malone so clearly writes to then reflect and determine their own position, to form their own opinion, to reach their own conclusion, entering the debates as required.. never from a shaped or pre determined perspective, nope, from your own.. oh, how those were the good ol days.. The trick is to find A.I that you can rely implicitly upon, that you can Trust.. GAB is one found to be as close to neutral as there can be there are others… for example when using DeepSeek. I found that it is better at completing certain tasks. Each tool is better at undertaking different things: Gemini is better at image generation. Grok is better at handling episodes with controversial content. It’s widely held that Grok “doesn’t have as many guardrails, so if you’re doing something that needs fewer guardrails, maybe use Grok.” Claude is good at generating bullet points to go in the description, and ChatGPT and Gemini are tied for true SEO optimization and suggesting the best hashtags. However the very best I believe has come out of China, fear not the malicious and pernicious rumour and fearmongering by Western providers with ulterior motives endeavouring to detract from use of China’s great models.. if it’s good enough for many of the U.S and now Wests top tech companies and Corporates, Microsoft amongst them to use Chinese A.I, doing so at a fraction of cost charged U.S providers it’s good enough for me… just saying
You know, it's really awful. We can't trust our federal government. We can't trust our local governments. We can't trust our news people. We can't trust our doctors. We can't trust our medicine. We can't trust our schools. We can't trust our banks (they might not like a post)....
We find we CAN trust certain people (truth tellers) on X or Facebook...and that sounds absolutely insane! But that trust only came after following someone long enough that they've earned that trust - and still we keep an eye out for anything that might destroy that trust.... It's a heavy burden on the trusted.
And I NEVER would've thought one day I'd say "I trust Russell Brand." 😲

Let’s not forget election polling - an activity I think should be lumped in with journalism. Consider the hijinks (hijinx?) in the polls prior to the recent Michigan and Wisconsin primaries. Those polls were so far off the actual results that’s it’s difficult not to wonder if they weren’t so much honest polls vs influence efforts. Perhaps it time to restrict poll results to more w/in a couple months of an election. Besides, who really responds to,polls anyway? I have dozens of txts on my device I ignore asking for my opinion re: issues in Montana, likely to vote for, etc. I’m not alone, last time I took my own poll face2face, I think I only found one person who responds.
As for the press, perhaps it’s time to rewrite Amendment One from "freedom,…of the press" to "freedom,… of a fair unbiased press" and annulling the Sullivan ruling such that slandering a political/public official/person through the use of biased labels can be sued over.
