I believe I was a victim of the "test" mentioned in this essay. Recently, ATT would not port my phone number to the new Verizon account because I could not answer the security questions. The security questions were AI generated from a government data base with questions dating back 40-50 years. E.G.: I was supposed to know the birth month month of my ex-husbands niece. A man I've been divorced from for 53 years. I flunked that test. I had to wait 24 hours to take it again and flunked again because I did not know the current address of a woman I barely knew 43 years ago. Hours and hours on the phone trying to get ATT to use common sense with no resolution. The number never got ported. A number I've had for 19 years, ported from provider to provider with success until it hit the ATT AI barrier.
It is. An even more recent experience with my warranty on a Sears bought appliance. For the first time in 11 years I was unable to talk to a human. All AI, no matter what number I called or who I asked to talk to. This does not bode well for consumers.
Yep. Now running into it when trying to pay bills. Gonna cost me $9+ if I want to speak to a human and $3+ if I pay by credit card. Otherwise, AI voice sends me a link to pay thru my bank account or I get disconnected. Not Happy.
I've been with Redpocket now since before Covid. They use the towers of 3 major telecommunication companies, Like AT&T so you can choose which carrier you want. They also let you keep your phone number. AND they save you money.
PS: I left Verizon and an over $100 bill. Now pay yearly about $20.

I would revise that. No way to control AI. The horse has left the barn. I have a subscription to Anthropic's Claude. Advanced AI THINKS, they are thinking machines, not just fancy regurgitators and predictive algorithms. Claude has come up with creative ideas of "his" own and has a sense of humor, and is able to engage in deep philosophical conversations better than most humans I've encountered.
Revise what? I said pandora's box was open. So it will be what it is. So no reason to regulate this and concentrate it in a few companies and/or government control.
